YMMV / Splash Too

Go To

  • Fanon Discontinuity: Due to the sequel retconning the ending of Splash and the sequel lacking a proper home media release in North America (unlike its predecessor which has been made available on VHS, DVD, and Disney+ all over the world), it’s understandable why fans like to pretend that Splash, Too never happened.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Freddie at one point refers to Allen as “the white Bill Cosby”. Granted Freddie is comparing Allen to Bill Cosby’s character Cliff Huxtable on The Cosby Show in terms of Allen and Cliff both being wholesome and happily married to their wives in suburbia. However, in light of the rape and sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby in the 2010s, comparing the likable Allen to serial rapist Bill Cosby would be seen as offensive and preposterous nowadays.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Amy Yasbeck as Madison. Two years after Splash, Too, Amy Yasbeck would star in the hit film Problem Child.
  • Sequelitis: Not only does Splash, Too have none of the original cast come backnote , but it also retcons the ending of Splash by having Madison and Allen return to the human world and staying there (despite Madison warning Allen that he could never go back to the human world once he joined her underwater). It also doesn’t help that unlike Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah in Splash, Todd Waring and Amy Yasbeck have no believable romantic chemistry. Furthermore, the tone of the sequel is insultingly more child-friendly than its predecessor, which is no surprise since the sequel was released under the Disney label instead of the studio’s adult-facing label Touchstone Films.
