• Broken Base: Many fans are split on this episode as it is regarded to be one of the most controversial episodes in the series. In regard to the humor some people found the jokes about barbecue pig ribs to be hilarious while others found it squicky and nauseating.
• Fanon Discontinuity: Some fans consider this episode to be the worst episode of the series so far due to how needlessly cruel Miss Frankie was towards Korvo and Terry. Some of the fans who only like the wall portions like to pretend that The Apple Pencil Pro is a completely wall centered episode.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The aliens attempting to play detective to find out who framed them was a good concept given that it provided some unlikely characters a chance to get in that role and improve their relations with the public. However that plot all goes to waste when the false clues they find delude them into believe they were the torturers and they never find out who the true culprit was.
• Unintentionally Unsympathetic: While the writers did try to explain why Miss Frankie framed The Solar Opposites for her crimes, the fact that she framed Korvo and Terry, combined with her decision to mutate a pig and torture it as part of her scheme, caused her to lose a lot of sympathy points with fans.
