  • Alternative Character Interpretation: All around the whole place.
  • Memetic Mutation: The "Ned Stark Facts".
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • Rodrik and Maron Greyjoy go on a murder and rape spree across the Westerlands so terrible that it makes Robert, Eddard and Denys justified in employing Pay Evil unto Evil tactics against them.
    • Genna Lannister having the "ironseed" children murdered.
    • Euron Greyjoy, when he flees Bear Island, takes all the adults and pulls a cruel Mind Rape sort of trick to traumatise Dacey (making her think her mother and sister were turned into bears via a hallucinatory substance in the water. And then he cuts out the men's tongues and makes them into thralls, has the women not with child raped, and later starts selling them as slaves.
    • Oberyn Sand murders his mother and father at separate intervals, both cases being Disproportionate Retribution based purely on misunderstandings and Poor Communication Kills; while he had reasons to be upset, his response was way over the line, especially considering he killed his father by stabbing him with his own poisoned spear and leaving him to slowly bleed out and die an agonising death, while he has sex with his future wife in the same room.
  • Nightmare Fuel: There are a lot of moments of this within this story, both within the story for the characters and outside of the story for the readers.
    • Jaime is horrified to see the effects of an adult and two children drinking wildfire.
    • Raynald Westerling cries upon seeing a snow representation of a seashell because he vaguely recalls seeing his father's corpse stuffed with seashells.
    • Rhaenys Targaryen nearly drowns when Varys attempts to kidnap her and is terrified of deep water afterwards.
    • Oswell Whent being "put to stud" - that is, he is forcibly raped by women in order to produce offspring (that Varys intends to make into his agents, though he claims that he was unaware of this for some time) and unable to fight back or starve himself to death because they either drug him or forcibly feed him; keeping him alive until Varys finally offers him an out via suicide. The nearly-clinical nature of the chapter only makes it far more unsettling, not to mention the brutal act of subverting Double Standard Rape: Female on Male.
    • In-Universe, Renly has nightmares about a black dragon eating him after his niece Cassana tells him of having such nightmares herself.
  • Ships That Pass in the Night: Hoster Tully/Elia Martell, Edmure Tully/Asha Greyjoy and many, many others.
