• Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The episode opens with a primitive ape smashing some rocks together before throwing one into the air, which does a Match Cut to Spinelli's football in the present; it's promptly never referred to again. Anyone who hasn't seen 2001: A Space Odyssey won't understand the joke and even then it's still mostly irrelevant since in the rest of the episode is a parody of the Hal 9000 subplot.
• Bizarro Episode: This is an oddly scifi-ish segment that's basically one big reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey.
