  • Awesome Art
    • The commissioned concept art for the series, created by Raph Lomotan, captures scenes from the books with its combination of intricate details and vivid colours. His illustrations depict the dinosaur as both beautiful and terrifying while capturing the dark, eerie atmosphere of the story.
    • The detailed artwork of Babisu Kourtis, coloured by Maja Opacic for the comic adaptation, is also deserving of praise for its ability to capture the gritty and dark atmosphere depicted in the first book while making the dinosaurs look fearsome.
  • Friendly Fandoms:
    • It's not unusual for readers of Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park novels to also be fans of Primitive War. Both are sci-fi stories about dinosaurs with a dark and pessimistic tone, along with plenty of graphic violence. It also doesn't hurt that the author, Ethan Pettus, has shared his love for Crichton's work, resulting in several nods to Jurassic Park throughout his books.
    • As the Primitive War series is now available as a comic, its fans have bonded with those of the Portuguese indie comic Congo: 1880, which also presents a Genre Throwback tale featuring dinosaurs in a Lost World scenario, complete with graphic scenes. The official social media accounts for both series have even collaborated and shared crossover art to promote each other’s work.
  • Spiritual Successor:
    • Primitive War can be seen as a modern, darker and far more violent update of The Land That Time Forgot, with its premise of soldiers facing off against dinosaurs in a Lost World-like environment during historical conflicts.
    • The books double as excellent novelizations of the first two Dino Crisis games. Both revolve around horror and involve teams of military personnel fighting dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures in lush jungles in the present day, all because of a botched government experiment creating disturbances in the space-time continuum.
