YMMV / My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (IDW) Annual 2013

• Broken Base: Some liked The Fall of Sunset Shimmer for higlighting Sunset Shimmer's parallels to Twilight Sparkle and giving her more fleshed-out motives, granting Princess Celestia more development, and providing enough to handwave some the plot holes in the movie. Others were disappointed by the lack of answers and Sunset's lack of Freudian Excuse or any redeeming traits only fueling the criticism (at the time) that she was insincere or undeserving of her redemption.
• Fanfic Fuel: The Mythology Gag of Megan, Danny, and Molly being mentioned and a book in the Canterlot library mentioning her by name implying Megan not only exists in the G4 universe, but ventured to Equestria at some point and left enough of an impact to have a book dedicated to her is a tantalizing bit of information for fanfic writers.
• Fanon Discontinuity: While The Fall of Sunset Shimmer was accepted by many, The rest of Annual was rejected for disregarding the movies timeline. Also for portraying human Babs Seed as a straight bully which hurt the case for their controversial pony self, being the same age as Applejack despite the rest of the Alternate Selfs having the same relative ages, and their absence from the movie raising more questions. This lessened over time as Pony Babs never showed back up in the animated series after "Apple Family Reunion" (due to her actress having moved to stage acting and the producers not wanting to replace her) and could just be chalked up to different dimensional timelines (Remember the ponies are technically adults back on Equestria while many of them are teens in the human world).
• So Okay, It's Average: Other than The Fall of Sunset Shimmer, the Annual did nothing of interest, but it flaws were also forgettable and didn't notably drag it down like the next installment.
