- Designated Hero: Most of the time the titular monsters come across as idiotic xenophobic jerks, and there are several occasions where the conflict of an episode is brought about by the monsters being assholes or just being plain stupid.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Sqweep is probably the most popular of the Canon Foreigner characters, due to being adorable and also the only non-malicious or aggressive alien note .
- Fanon Discontinuity: The series is often ignored by fans of the movie due to the rampant flanderization across the cast, hideously creepy and outdated CGI animation, and giving Susan the ability to revert back to her normal size (and thus killing the main idea behind her character).
- Hilarious in Hindsight: The Internet (who is actually an alien) constantly uses old and dead memes. This would be a groan-inducing attempt at being relevant...if not for the brief resurgence of extremely old memes at the time, making the episode look relevant and seem like a parody of current events.
- Retroactive Recognition: Sqweep was Haley Tju's first voice acting role before she became better known as Stella and Marcy Wu.
- Sequelitis: Compared to both the previous DreamWorks shows on Nickelodeon and its own source movie, the series is widely considered to be a massive downgrade, with worse animation and less charming writing/humour.
- Unintentional Uncanny Valley: Due to the CGI models being fairly low-quality (even compared to the previous DreamWorks shows on Nickelodeon) the human characters (mainly Susan, Monger, and the President) look very ugly and plasticky. Susan in particular resembles a porcelain doll.
