YMMV / Kekko Kamen

Go To

  • Fetish Retardant: The eponymous heroine herself, thanks to how ridiculous her costume looks, but given the overall comedic tone of the manga, due to it being a gag comedy, it's more than likely that this is intentional.
  • Fridge Brilliance: The OVA adds blue tinted lenses to Kekko Kamen's mask; this is so that, in case some of the different Kekko Kamens have different eye colors, it won't reveal the secret of their Collective Identity.
    • In the OVA Kekko Kamen is initially vulnerable to Shuwarutsu Negataro' charms, but after Chigusa Yuka gave her a blindfold she suddenly became unaffected even after the blindfold was removed. Since Chigusa Yuka is actually twins and the only two holders of Kekko Kamen's mantle introduced in the OVA, one of the twins was vulnerable to Negataro's charms but not the other, and when "Chigusa Yuka" showed up to the other with a blindfold she just told her to let her take the job and wore the blindfold for a while to throw off any suspicion.
  • Funny Moments:
    • Kekko Kamen's introduction in the first chapter of the manga, as she slowly enters in the room, trying to be dramatic, but instead looking goofy due to how overly deliberate she's being, while the two punishment teachers who are supposed to be fighting her end up getting turned on and even cheering her on as she proceeds to sing her own theme song in the most adorkable fashion possible, and then running out of the room in an equally endearingly dorky fashion, swinging her nunchaku above her head like a flail as she cheers herself on, resuming singing her theme song.
    • A dark one, at that - but still, "I EXPRESSLY TOLD YOU TO WAIT FOR ME! UR MEAN!"
    • Kekko Kamen demanding the name of the (up until now) unnamed Samurai in the OVA. His response? Go completely quiet, then looking down at a puddle, his reflection in it, before looking back at her and declaring that his name is Puddle Strongman, Mizutumari Tsuyokaro.
    • The introduction of Kekko Kamen's... "unconventional" finishing move in the first episode of the OVA truly defies explanation:
Kekko: Principal Big Toenail of Satan! Have a peek at my secret technique! OPEN! THIGHS! JUMP! [launches herself forward so that she smacks Toenail right in the face with her crotch amid excited fanfare]
    Satan's Toenail: Uhuhuhuhuhuh! Mmmmph! Mmmph!
    Kekko: Next technique! Muffication Squeeze!
Satan's Toenail: Uhh! Uhh! Can't... breathe! Don't... want to...! [collapses in defeat] K-Kekko Kamen! That was great! Thank you very much!
Kekko: [notices Teacher Ben pointing to himself] Huh?
Teacher Ben: Uh... uh... me too!
Kekko: NO! Have a taste of this! [smacks him in the face with her nunchaku]
  • Les Yay: Between Kekko Kamen and Mayumi Takahashi mostly.
    • When Ai Sakai is first introduced she is seen kissing a picture of Kekko Kamen with hearts floating around her.
    • Ho Yay: Super Golden Batman is stated to be the child conceived from a love triangle between Superman, Batman and Golden Bat, it’s an interesting choice of words.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Despite the series being mostly comedy, Spartan Academy itself can qualify as this, especially for anyone whose had to deal with sadistic teachers like the ones in this manga, as the faculty of Sparta is almost completely composed out of sadists who love to torture students that fail as well as sexually harass the female student body.
    • Teacher Ben, an Ax-Crazy maniac who wants to dissect peoples pets and is so out of his mind that his response to Mayumi Takahashi begging him to not dissect her pet cat is to assume that, in his own twisted logic, because cats can only have other cats for friends, Mayumi herself is a cat, and immediately has her held down and plots to dissect her instead!
    • The punishment used on Mayumi in Three Beautiful Suspects, namely in that she's restrained to a wall and has photos pinned into her flesh with nails, and it starts off with her receiving a Groin Attack. Ouch.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: Despite the nudity, the series was syndicated in Monthly Shonen Jump.
