YMMV / George of the Jungle (2007)

Go To

  • Angel/Devil Shipping: George for his kindness and Ursula (who was Magnolia in Season 1) because of her rude behavior.
  • Bile Fascination: Some hold this sentiment towards the second season, mostly towards how it often dips into material that's questionable at best and borderline fetishistic at worst. A description for a compilation gratuitously described it as "Totally Spies! on bath salts".
  • Broken Base: Fans are divided on whether the 2007 series is an acceptable successor to the original 1967 series or not. Some find the 2007 show to be an insult to the original 1967 series in every single way, while others believe it to be a perfectly fine show that still manages to be quite funny and entertaining. Then there's the 2015 reboot, which made some fans view the 2007 series more favorable by comparison.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: The 2015 version doesn't exist in the eyes of the 2007 George of the Jungle's fans. Or many other people, for that matter.
    • The 2007 series itself was this in the eyes of fans of the original 60s series and the films.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: George and Ursula (2007 Version) some people prefer George with Magnolia (being an expy of Ursula of 1967)
  • Nausea Fuel: The 2015 reboot is generouslynote  considered a Grossout Show for a reason. Body Horror, vore, toilet humor and on-screen sex jokes, all of which depicted in surprisingly graphic fashion for something out of a children's series, are loudly and proudly on display.
  • Older Than They Think: The sudden revival of the show for a drastically different second season nearly a decade after it ended is utterly baffling to some, but does have its precedence in the history Teletoon programming. After originally ending in 1991 on CBC, Nelvana's Babar series was randomly resurrected in 2000 for a sixth season on Teletoon's commission that also significantly changed elements of the series to the point of feeling like a completely new show. The difference however is that it continued to be produced by the same studio, whereas the second season of George of the Jungle was made by a completely different studio due to the show's rights having changed quite a bit since it originally ended.
  • The Problem with Licensed Games: The 2007 series had a game released on the PlayStation 2, Wii and Nintendo DS. They were all sidescrollers that were bland at best and outright unfinished at worst. The Wii version in particular had bad motion controls that you had to use to play the game.
  • Seasonal Rot: Depending on whether you consider the 2015 series a second season or a separate revival/reboot; both fans and detractors of the first season agree it was better than the second one. Aside from all the changes mentioned elsewhere, the 2015 show was much more of a Grossout Show than anything that came before it.
  • Shipping:
    • George and Ursula (Gesula) has few shipping moments while got a little more as Magnolia.
    • George and Magnolia (Geomag) has more shipping moments on the 2007 series while her name is now Ursula for 2015, there's so much shipping between those two.
  • Ship-to-Ship Combat: George/Ursula & George/Magnolia 2015 Version.
  • Second Season Downfall: While the first season is often considered So Okay, It's Average by most, the second season had numerous changes and problems that even fans of the first season disliked, most prominent of these being a significant uptick in grossout humor and many characters being completely changed for unclear reasons.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The general reception to the first season. While overall seen as a pretty middling reboot of the classic show, it is still widely agreed upon to have had its share of funny moments and positive contributions to the original's legacy.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: A lot of changes were made for the 2015 reboot. Perhaps the most jarring is Magnolia and Ursula have switched names, and the former has had a complete personality change. Granted, many would say that was the least of its worries.
    • Many felt the same way with the 2007 series when it originally aired, with common complaints being removing Ape's accent and the original show's recurring antagonists, the complete reimagining of Ursula's character, and the change in animation style and plotlines.
