YMMV / Flower Angel

Go To

  • Adaptation Displacement: Everyone's at least aware of the Little Flower Fairy game Flower Angel is based on, but some people are still more familiar with the show.
  • Archive Panic: The cartoon has eight seasons with 288 episodes and a movie. It would take you upwards of two days to complete the series without breaks.
  • Broken Base:
    • The franchise itself suffers badly from a vicious fandom conflict between the game and the animated series. The continuity of the game also further divides the community.
    • Many people have also left fans during the spinoff series see Seasonal Rot and They Changed It, Now It Sucks!!, however, there are still a few people who stay and somewhat enjoy the new series for the new lore and interesting character dynamics.
  • Common Knowledge: It's common to assume Vocaloid character Hatsune Miku's appearance in episodes 33 and 34 is unauthorized. Considering China is known for a lot of copyright infringement that extends to entire shows (and Flower Fairy does copy Cardcaptor Sakura somewhat), this makes sense, but they did get permission to use Miku.
  • Fanon Discontinuity:
    • Many fans of the game chose to ignore the continuity of the animated series due to the vastly different story and changes to the preferred character ship.
    • Major fans of the Xia An'an series mostly ignored the last four seasons due to the change in protagonist and narrative.
  • Fandom Rivalry:
    • Many fans of Cardcaptor Sakura would accuse Flower Fairy of "plagiarizing" that series due to a similar theme with it being about magical girls and card collecting. Though the fans of Flower Fairy would defend the series saying the similarities are purely coincidental or at least only having minor influences in style and not being an exact copy.
    • There's also somewhat of a discourse with Vocaloid fans about the episodes where Hatsune Miku got a cameo and fans arguing whether or not they had Crypton's permission to do so. note
  • Growing the Beard: In Season 2, the show starts to focus less on the things that make it a mockbuster of Cardcaptor Sakura and becomes far more original.
  • Moe: The already adorable animesque art style of the game gets simplified here with more Puni Plush-like designs, making the whole affair even more adorable.
  • Periphery Demographic: A NetEase Entertainment review points out that otakus and adult men like the series as much as girls do.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: The ship between An'an and Kukuru is known as "库安", or "Kuan".
  • Replacement Scrappy: Many people were dissatisfied with Xiaoai replacing Anan in the later seasons.
  • Seasonal Rot: A number of viewers broke off from the series starting with Season 5, as they found Xiaoai replacing An'an as the protagonist to be unnecessary due to their attitude of They Changed It, Now It Sucks!!
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: The five-note jingle used in the Eyecatch from Season 5 onwards sounds note-for-note like the classic Nickelodeon jingle.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • In Season 1 episode 20, An'an gets sent through time by magic doors and sees how her mother and father met. When An'an enters the fourth and final door, she sees her mother Lily talking to a picture of baby An'an, explaining that she can't stay in the human realm to watch her grow but loves her very much. Present-day An'an starts tearing up and runs up to Lily to give her a hug... right as Lily disappears into thin air, after which An'an is sent back to the present, still sobbing.
    • It gets Harsher in Hindsight in the Guardian Angel arc when we find out that Lily became the energy of the Skytree and never got a chance to properly reunite with Anan.
  • Toy Ship: Fanart exists of An'an, who is 10 years old at the beginning of the show, being shipped with Kukuru in his mature princely child form. They get a Relationship Upgrade in season three, making them an Official Couple in the future with them even being bonded by a Red String of Fate.
  • Unexpected Character: Season 1 episodes 33 and 34 would probably otherwise be unremarkable episodes if not for Vocaloid character Hatsune Miku's major role in both.
