Note: Unless otherwise specified, all tropes pertain to the characters, not the content creators that play them.

  • Accidental Innuendo: After Martyn builds a heart-shaped base (named the Bleeding Heart Bastion), Jimmy wants to create a petition signed by everyone who can see it from where they live in order to force him to move away. Unfortunately, the way he describes it is for people who can "see Martyn's thing". As with the Does This Remind You of Anything? in 3rd Life, Cleo calls it out.
  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • Grian's objection and reluctance (for the most part) to being soulbound to Scar. Is it due to dissatisfaction for having a "low-tier", eccentric, accident-prone player, or reluctance for Scar to get hurt or die because of him after the events of 3rd Life? Most of canon indicates it's closer to the former, but Grian also mentions having already done a series with Scar and "well, we all know how that ended" on Day 1, so it's unsurprising that fans often interpret it to be the latter. The same reasoning applies for his "secret soulmates" thing with Big B — out of dissatisfaction or an attempt to get less attached to Scar?
    • While general consensus on the Double Life finale goes that Scott's final act of self-detonation is a self-sacrifice to give Pearl the victory, the fan animatic "Running Up That Hill" posits that he did so out of grief after Cleo's death, which cc!Martyn likes and thinks would be a more of a Tear Jerker.
  • Idiosyncratic Ship Naming:
    • A carry-over from 3rd Life, Grian and Scar are called "Desert Duo" due to them setting up their base in the desert biome of the map two seasons prior.
    • Scott, Cleo, Martyn, and Pearl are called the "Divorce Quartet", "Divorce Fource", or variations thereof due to the soulbound pairs falling out with each other on the first episode and their resultant dynamic being shaped by this.
  • One True Threesome: The "Flower Ranchers" (Scott, Jimmy, and Tango), to balance out both "Flower Husbands" from 3rd Life and "Team Rancher" from Double Life. While there are occasional conflicts, a fan poll on Tumblr reveals that shippers are fairly evenly split and many are horrified about having to choose between the ships.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: Primarily reserved for more shippy variants of character dynamics, though they're sometimes used platonically as well.note
    • In both 3rd Life and Double Life, for a more romantic-coded variant of 'Desert Duo' (Grian and Scar), there's 'Scarian'.
    • In Double Life, while Jimmy and Tango go with 'Team Rancher' in canon, one of the more romantic-coded duo names for their characters is "SolidariTek".
