  • The Reapers were known as "Flying Killer Time Monkeys".
  • "Time monkeys!" briefly became a popular way to answer questions of the form "Why can't the Doctor just go back in time and..."
• Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • The episode contains contemporary background music, including a late-80s hit record by a Lancashire-born pop singer. The song? Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up", which would eventually become a massive internet meme. Nowadays, it's impossible to watch this episode without thinking "Hey, the Doctor just Rickrolled me!"
  • We're informed that the Reapers are here to "sterilize the wound". "The Wedding of River Song" illustrates what will happen if they don't sterilize the wound: profound silliness.
• Memetic Mutation: "GET IN THE CHURCH!" has been used frequently in edits, with the Doctor running onscreen whenever a church is mentioned.
• She Really Can Act: Before being cast as Rose Tyler, Billie Piper was best known as a flash-in-the-pan teen pop star. This episode in particular showed that she had real acting chops.
