YMMV / Daylight's End

Go To

  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
  • Fanon Discontinuity: Some people disregard the final battle or wish it had been different, feeling it's too by-the-numbers for the genre, wastes some good characters, and doesn't live up to some earlier parts of the film.
  • Magnificent Bastard: The Alpha is the most competent zombie plaguing the small gang of survivors the film follows. Arriving on the scene and organizing its aimless, mindless brethren into a more dangerous group, the Alpha uses clever strike tactics and ambushes to whittle down the survivors and trap them inside a police station, sealing off their only vehicle exit ramp to further cripple them. Not falling for distraction tactics or sneak attacks like other zombies, the Alpha saves its followers from an attempted bombing and leads them for a final strike against the survivor gang, personally confronting its rival Thomas Rourke in hand-to-hand combat to settle old scores.
  • Took the Bad Film Seriously: The Action Film, Quiet Drama Scene moments and the emotion shown by characters who are about to die or have lost loved ones are better than they’d be in the average rainy day action movie, with Lance Henriksen getting particular praise.
  • Vanilla Protagonist: Nomadic Crusading Widow Rourk has been criticized for his lack of depth and planning ability and is considered by some to be a Mad Max Expy, while some people think that various people in the group he's helping (the Wasteland Elder, his son, Sam The Heart, Battle Couple Earnesta and Burton, concerned father Chris, and Russian commando Vlad) had some untapped potential and could have carried the movie better.
