The Simpsons in Plusaversary is a 2021 animated short based on The Simpsons and Disney. Directed by David Silverman, it is the fifth standalone Simpsons short and the third one made for Disney+.
Several Disney characters are lined up to enter Moe's Tavern for a party celebrating the anniversary of the launch day of Disney+. It seems that Homer will not be allowed to enter since he is not on the guest list, until Goofy shows up and Homer forces him to take him in as his Plus 1.
The short premiered on November 12, 2021.
Tropes appearing in this short:
- An Arm and a Leg: Buzz Lightyear and The Mandalorian are having an arm-wrestling contest. This results in Buzz losing an arm once again.
- Bait-and-Switch: Near the end of the short, Mickey Mouse's silhouette shows up, only for it to be just Bart in a Mickey costume.
- Biting-the-Hand Humor: Well, of course.
- Callback: Not the first time Bart impersonated the mascot of a corporation.
- Crossover: Between a lot of franchises owned by Disney. Besides characters from The Simpsons, this short also includes characters from the Classic Disney Shorts, the Disney Animated Canon movies, Pixar movies, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Star Wars.
- Cruella to Animals: The end credits show Cruella De Vil measuring Santa's Little Helper, with the latter understandably worried about her intentions.
- Freeze-Frame Bonus: You'll notice a good amount of familiar characters in the background. Notably, Baymax, who has the usual Simpsons overbite, despite not having a mouth.
- One of the names on the guest list is Bluey, even though her show is not made by Disney (or on the service in Australia and New Zealand).
- The guest list has two historical figures from the American Revolution and the post-revolutionary era, in apparent reference to the film version of Hamilton that is on the service.
- Jeff Goldblum is on the list, as he is the host of the Disney+ show The World According to Jeff Goldblum.
- Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: Homer complains that Winnie the Pooh is allowed to the party despite not wearing any pants.
- Lampshade Hanging: The gist of the short is pretty much lampshading how much IP Disney has under its umbrella.
- Late Export for You: In-universe, Kang and Kodos appear with one of them holding a sign stating that Disney+ won't be available on Jupiter until 2025.
- Mundane Utility:
- Doctor Strange uses his power to win a game of pool.
- Elsa creates ice for the ice bucket to keep beer bottles cold.
- Odd Friendship: Implied with Cobra Bubbles seen in a booth with Fat Tony.
- The Unintelligible: Moe thinks that Donald Duck is choking due to the latter's speech impediment.
- Uninvited to the Party: Homer nearly gets turned away for reasons unexplained. It's through Goofy that he's allowed into Moe's for the party. The two end up bonding after this.
