Nova 44
is a webcomic by Jack Vaughan and Julia Bates, originally posted in 2023. It follows the misadventures of a struggling band, Nova 44, traveling through space and performing in musical battles.The titular band is a three-piece rock band of consisting of a lead guitarist Zander Gordon; the bassist, Will Westforest; and literal drum machine RB (The Cutie of the band). Together they travel to dive bars around the galaxy, playing shows and fighting other musicians in an effort to scrape together enough for gas money to get to the next gig.
Nova 44 provides examples of:
- Battle of the Bands: The start of the second chapter makes this clear this is a common and integral part of the world.
- No Biochemical Barriers: Everybody seems to breath the same air just fine.
- Starving Artist: The band enters a possibly deadly fight basically over gas money.
