Quite the Legendary family!

Mew and Mewtwo is a Pokémon fan-comic made by TC-96.

This comic takes place after the events of Pokémon: The First Movie and Pokémon: Genesect and the Legend Awakened. The Mewtwos from both movies, as well as Mew, are now living with Ash. The comic mostly consists of Mew and the Mewtwos going about their day, but still has a plot.

Can be found here. An ongoing dub of the series courtesy of the Youtube channel OVAS can be found here.

Provides examples of:

  • Aborted Arc: Newtwo upon deciding to take in Loaf said she would search the area for Loaf's family but so far nothing has been reported of the search, nor has it been explained how a Hisuian Zorua made it to present day Kanto.
  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Both Mew and the 'Twos are subject to this. Mewtwo even more so, as he almost constantly wears his scarf.
    • When out in the cold, Newtwo and Huey wear cloaks. Huey also wears a beanie sometimes.
    • Following one too many incidents of Pig sneaking out to play with her ghost friends, Mewtwo starts making her wear a Soothe Bell on a handkerchief around her neck. Far into the future, Pig's own child Stain wears the same bell-and-handkerchief (for similar reasons).
    • For Pig's first birthday, Mewtwo decides she's proven her maturity enough to no longer need the bell, and gives her his old bandana which she wears from then on.
    • In a few comics that jump forward into the far future, adult Huey is shown to wear a cloak; the conclusion of the Shadowtwo arc implies that he does so to hide the scars he received from the battle with his possessed uncle.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: HOLY ARCEUS! While the Two's have always angsted about their origins they never had to deal with being Mew's genetically altered children. Nor did they have to worry about being Good Parents.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: While the Shaymin from the Giratina movie was fairly bratty, they're downright unpleasant here, to the point where all the other Shaymin actively make an effort to avoid them. Their attitude almost always ends up getting them (literally) kicked out of the house.
  • Affectionate Nickname:
    • Newtwo often calls Huey "sweet pea".
    • Huey starts calling Mewtwo "Uncle Face" literally from the moment he starts talking, though less so as he gets older (the nickname stemming from Ash teaching baby Huey to mimic Mewtwo's angry glare and calling it his "uncle face"). Mewtwo is highly unamused, but Huey clearly uses the name with great affection.
    • Pigment's name is often shortened to "Pig" by her family.
    • Huey's future child, Cheri, is called "my little cheri berry" by their father.
  • Almighty Mum: Delia is capable of scolding literal Olympus Mons and/or telling them what to do. Even Mewtwo, to whom mothers are a foreign concept, is easily shut down in an argument with her.
  • Amusing Injuries: Whenever Ash does something to upset Mewtwo, he often gets seriously hurt.
  • Anger Born of Worry:
    • Mewtwo is prone to this around Ash, sometimes even using force to prevent him from going on outings that would put him in danger.
    • A mild example when Newtwo threatens Mewtwo to stop refusing to drink after he just got treated for dehydration.
Newtwo: Now seriously, go drink something or I'll put that IV back in myself. I'm not trained in medicine, so you won't like how I do it.
    • When Mewtwo finds out about Huey entertaining the idea of convincing Dialga to change time so that Mew never lost its babies, even knowing it would erase himself from existence, he gives his nephew a solid bonk on the noggin, then pulls him into a hug.
  • Anxiety Dreams:
    • Newtwo has one where her son, Huey, is captured and tortured in a lab by Team Rocket while she can do absolutely nothing about it.
    • Mewtwo, fueled by his guilt over having considered leaving Pigment to die when he destroyed the lab she was created in, has a nightmare where he does exactly that.
  • Ascended Fanon:
    • "Newtwo", as a previously-existing Fan Nickname for the Genesect movie mewtwo, was originally just used out-of-universe by TC and readers to distinguish between the adult 'Twos, while in-universe they were just called "Mewtwo" interchangeably; more recently, it was made canon as a nickname coined by Ash for the same purpose.
Ash: (to Mewtwo) I call your sister "Newtwo" these days just to make it easier.
      Newtwo: You call me what-now?
    • The annoying Shaymin from Giratina and the Sky Warrior just kind of started being called "Brad" by the readers, which eventually made its way into canon.
ditto70: I like how we all collectively decided the Shaymin's name is Brad
  • Assurance Backfire: Played for laughs in one comic where Huey wakes up from a nightmare, and Pigment "comforts" her big cousin in her own unique way.
Pigment: Bad dream nothing, Huey. Real life much scarier with real monst'rs. (gives him a light kiss on the temple, then leaves)
Huey: (clutches his blanket, wide-eyed and terrified)
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: For as much as they squabble and get on each other's nerves, its shown several times that Mewtwo and Newtwo genuinely do care for one another in their own ways.
  • Baby's First Words:
    • Huey's are "Uncl' Face!". Newtwo is completely okay with this.
Newtwo: (Blue with Shock) It's fine. It's completely fine, I only carried and gave birth to him, I don't need to be his first word, it's fine...
    • Pig's first word is... "Pig". As she says this after Mewtwo suggests it as a shortening for "Pigment", it efficiently settles the debate on her name.
    • Possibly just a non-canon joke, but one comic has Huey's child Cheri hear their father declare Arceus a "heartless bitch" (for the cosmic joke of making Huey's own baby red after having refused to indulge Huey's childhood wish to be said color), and immediately repeat "binch".
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Mew poses just as much of a threat to the 'Twos as the anime. If any of them step out of line, they can end up in a time-out bubble. Pig is the only one immune to this.
  • Big Brother Instinct: In the far future, Newtwo's second son Lavender is very supportive and protective of his younger twin sister Lilac (who experiences delayed development of her psychic powers stemming from complications during her birth).
  • Big Eater: Mew, Newtwo, and Huey.
  • Birthday Episode: Quite a few episodes focus on the 'Twos' birthdays, mostly with cake.
  • Bizarre Alien Reproduction: Much unlike normal Pokémon, who mate and lay eggs, Mews and Mewtwos fall pregnant and give birth after being exposed to a certain flower while in just the right state of mind.
  • Black Comedy: After explaining that Newtwo's Mega Evolution stone is implanted too close to many vital organs and that removing it would kill her, and receiving a truckload of asks pushing hypotheticals such as Mew teleporting it out, TC made a (non-canon) comic where Newtwo tells Mew to just go ahead and try said method to satisfy the askers. Mew complies, and Newtwo promptly drops down dead. And then Mew offers the pixelized but clearly very bloody stone to a Blue with Shock Huey and asks if he now wants to try it out. And then Newtwo gets right back up after Mew shoves the stone down her throat.
  • A Bloody Mess: Toddler Huey's attempts to make himself red were not always the most well-thought out.
Adult!Huey: Sometimes I wonder if I gave my mom a heart condition.
  • Break the Cutie: Huey is left shocked and traumatized when, during a training battle with his uncle, he accidentally causes a Shadow Synergy crystal to explode and a shard is embedded in Mewtwo's shoulder. The fact that Mewtwo received the injury when pushing Huey out of the way of the shard only makes him feel more guilty.
  • Brick Joke: In-universe; Arceus always turns down child/teen Huey's requests to make him red... then far in the future, adult Huey's own child pops out with a very pink skin tone right from the get-go. Possibly just coincidence and not a deliberate divine prank, but Huey certainly takes it as the latter.
Arceus: you know what would be hilarious?
    Huey: ...what?
    Arceus:
    Huey:
Arceus: wait about 100 years and we'll see
  • Brutal Honesty: When toddler Huey observes how tired his mother is, Mewtwo bluntly (though not maliciously) tells him that it's because of the stress of taking care of him. Huey isn't hurt and takes it in stride, but Mew smacks Mewtwo for being insensitive.
  • Call-Back: An early comic has Mewtwo come back to the Ketchum house after having left for a while with no notice and being read the riot act by Delia, upon which Mewtwo sheepishly promises to at least leave a note the next time. Several real-time years later, following Mewtwo's excursion that ended with him acquiring Pig, Ash takes a break from cooing over the new baby to bluntly inform Mewtwo that he had not, in fact, left a note this time (Mewtwo was aware). And that he would make sure it would be a closed-casket funeral. (Sure enough, one scene of the time-passage montage that follows shows Mewtwo in the midst of a severe scolding from Delia.)
  • Cardboard Prison: Pig's ability to phase through almost everything has obviously led to her escaping the house, time-out bubbles or her father's grasp.
  • Cerebus Rollercoaster: The comic goes from gut-busting comedy to tragic drama frequently, especially when it comes to the 'Twos' past.
  • Character Development: The 'Twos undergo plenty of character development over the time they spend in Ash's house. Mewtwo most of all, as he confronts his trauma and opens up to everyone.
    • Mewtwo not only warms up to everyone, but also begins to give and accept affection and his beliefs on the purpose and capabilities of his species are also turned on its head.
    • Huey becomes braver and more independent, while also growing determined to make sure his family is happy.
  • Cheerful Child: Huey, for the most part.
  • Clones Are People, Too: At some point since going his own way after the events of Mewtwo Returns, Pikatwo has evolved into a Raichu, something the original Pikachu has always staunchly refused to do.
  • Close to Home: Pig's introduction to the comic is this for Mewtwo, as she is a clone that has been found in an incubation tube similar to how Mewtwo was cloned. As Mewtwo storms the lab where Pig was cloned, he is shown getting really angry, damaging and destroying things as he goes. Thankfully, he does manage to restrain himself from killing the scientists and instead wipes their memories.
  • Colour-Coded Characters: Mewtwo has a bluish body color and speaks in black text while Newtwo is more pink and speaks in dark red text. Huey, being a shiny Pokémon, is green and speaks in green text and Pig, being a premature baby, is pale and speaks in dark cyan text.
  • Continuity Nod: Mewtwo is shown to still possess the mindwipe abilities he had in First Movie, which he uses against the scientists who created Pig.
  • Creepy Child: Played for Laughs with Pig. She is part-ghost and has ghost powers. She is also capable of taking out Eldritch Abominations such as Demontwo and the monsters that inhabit The Backrooms.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: In one comic, Mewtwo does this to Team Rocket, resulting in them never bothering Ash again.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Pig is part-ghost type, and is intimidating enough to drive off other, hostile ghosts from the household, able to phase through anything, and can distend and distort her body if she pleases. Despite this, she's still a sweet, albeit quiet, child who wants to stay with her family.
  • Deadpan Snarker: One of the things both adult 'Twos have in common.
Huey: Ash had a great idea how to pull my loose tooth out!
Newtwo: See, any sentence that starts with "Ash had a great idea" draws some concern.
  • Demoted to Extra: Ash started the series getting as much screentime as Mew and Mewtwo. After Newtwo appeared he started taking a backseat to Mewtwo and Newtwo's burgeoning sibling relationship, and by the time Pigment appears he's little more than a bit character. His Lucario ends up being a more involved character due to him being taken in by Newtwo. The Shadow Mewtwo arc reveals that the reason for Ash's absence is that he's currently in Galar.
  • Did We Just Have Tea with Cthulhu?: Mew and the Mewtwos, who are very powerful legendaries, are now living with Ash and Delia Ketchum. Justified, as they want to have a peaceful life away from humans.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Each of the 'Twos has a certain flavor or texture they can't stand.
    • Scarfy can't stomach sweets. If he has too much sugar he gets a stomachache.
    • Newtwo has no spice tolerance.
    • Huey can't handle bitter things.
    • Pig has a distaste for sweets, like her father, but she at least doesn't have tummy trouble just from eating them. Unlike her father, she is also not a fan of spicy foods (though she doesn't have as severe a reaction to trying them as does her aunt).
  • Early Instalment Weirdness: One early comic has Mewtwo, rather than Newtwo, mega-evolve into Mega Mewtwo Y. This was due to TC not having yet settled on which of the movie Mewtwos the character was based on (or even if there were multiple 'Twos at all), and has since been declared non-canon, with Mewtwo exclusively taking the Mega X form.
  • Easily Forgiven: After restoring Ash's memories of their first meeting, Mewtwo expects that Ash will feel a bit more ambivalent about him hanging around. But Ash, being Ash, isn't mad at all and holds no grudge - a reaction which Mewtwo bluntly states is pretty much just making him feel more guilt over having nearly killed the kid.
  • Empathic Environment:
    • Dark clouds gather during Mewtwo and Newtwo's brawl in the wake of the reveal of them being Mew's stolen children; once the fight is over and Mewtwo has expended all his rage, rain starts to fall as he begins crying, before fainting from physical and emotional exhaustion.
    • During the Shadow Mewtwo arc, Huey's compounding guilt over accidentally exploding the Synergy crystal that infected Mewtwo, and having been unable to contribute anything to healing Newtwo's near-fatal wound, is accompanied by rain beginning to fall as he stands alone staring at a patch of grass stained red with his mother's blood.
  • Empty Nest: Newtwo begins feeling this as Huey grows and starts to depend on her less; for example, she is noticeably saddened the first time he is able to sleep on his own during a thunderstorm without cuddling with her. She tries to hide this, not wanting to smother her child, but even Mewtwo picks up that it's affecting her.
    • Played for laughs in a crossover with Mewtwo and Me, where that comic's Mewtwo assures Newtwo that he's already worked through any such feelings regarding his own daughter growing up... to which Newtwo responds, "I take it that means you won't need any cuddle time with this?" and holds out Pig. Cut to a teary-eyed Mewtwo clutching Pig to his chest and softly singing "Cat's in the Cradle" as Newtwo pats him on the back.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: It gets cleared up by the next comic, but after recovering from her initial Stunned Silence upon seeing Mewtwo return home with Pigment, Newtwo arrives at a not-unreasonable explanation for the new baby.
Newtwo: Well that explains why you were so moody—
    Mewtwo: I wasn't pregnant!!
  • Family Theme Naming: Both second-generation mewtwo are given names related to their coloration - "Huey" due to his being a different hue than the others, "Pigment" for her relative lack of such. This trend continues far into the future, with Huey's child "Cheri" (for their pinkish skin tone), Newtwo's twins "Lavender" and "Lilac" (for their respective purple variations), and Pig's child "Stain" (for the birthmarks/vitiligo on his tail and ear). There's also the potential, not-yet-definitively-canon future child of Mewtwo named Stripe (for, well, having stripes).
  • Fictional Disability: Due to the complications that almost resulted in a Tragic Stillbirth, Newtwo's future daughter Lilac experiences delayed development of her psychic powers; for a long time the most she can manage is communicating telepathically, and even after developing some other abilities she is likely to remain the weakest of her family in terms of psychic potential. There's been some speculation from TC that she may end up developing stronger physical techniques to compensate.
  • Force Feeding: Mew does this to Mewtwo, sometimes even going so far as to TELEPORT food into his belly!. Justified, as Mewtwo often refuses to eat.
    • Not even an alternate version of Mewtwo can avoid this, as his counterpart from Mewtwo and Me discovered, much to the alternate Mew's dismay.
M2&M!Mew: You teleported a berry into his- wait how often do you do that to your Mewtwo?
      Mew: Mew.
M2&M!Mew: So maybe I ought to give you a biology lesson.
      Mew: (rolls eyes) Mew mew...
M2&M!Mew: Mashing it up first "this time" isn't the issue here...
  • Foregone Conclusion: Cleverly subverted at one point in the middle of the Shadow Mewtwo arc: after Mewtwo had been infected by the Synergy crystal, TC answered an unrelated ask regarding Mewtwo and his future grandchild, Stain, with a comic of the two interacting, thus seemingly playing this trope straight by showing Mewtwo still being around far in the future and therefore clearly having survived the incident... until TC pointed out in a follow-up answer that Stain, like his mother, will be able to see and interact with ghosts, and left it deliberately ambiguous as to whether or not this was the case in the scene.
    • Played straighter in regards to Newtwo's fate in the same arc. The fact that she gives birth to Lavender and Lilac in the far future all but confirms that she survives and recovers from Shadow Mewtwo impaling her with a Laser Blade.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Turns out most Shaymin are actually quite pleasant and humble, and none of them are particularly fond of Brad.
  • Fright-Induced Bunkmate: Huey's first attempt at sleeping on his own ends with a late-night thunderstorm sending him zooming under his mom for shelter.
  • Furry Reminder: Given that Mew and Mewtwo are based off cats, expect to see plenty of this in the comic (heck, the concept of them acting like cats was basically the premise that started the whole thing):
  • Glowing Eyes: Due to Pig's Ghost-type heritage her eyes glow in the dark. Mewtwo uses this as a flashlight.
  • Happily Adopted: Both Riolu and the Hisuian Zorua (named Loaf) view Newtwo as a mother figure, and for the most part she's a good caretaker to them.
  • Helpless with Laughter: Newtwo, after psychically "overhearing" Mewtwo's dream about baby Huey being an evil mastermind.
  • Homage: TC is a fan of Dragon Ball Z Abridged, and has made several non-canon comics recreating various scenes from that series with the Mewtwo family.
  • Horrifying the Horror: Pigment is a Creepy Child who barely changes her expression when encountering Eldritch Abominations along the lines of the monsters from The Backrooms... but Furbies utterly terrify her.
  • Hybrid Monster: Pig is part Ghost-Type due to the sample of Mewtwo's blood used to create her mixing with the DNA of the Gengar that first "acquired" the sample. Several gag comics show Pig being able to perform Gengar's trademark grin and eyes, but so far this has yet to show up in the comic's main canon.
  • I'm Crying, but I Don't Know Why: Mewtwo is briefly visited by the spirit of Ambertwo, who tells him she's happy he's found a home for himself. Mewtwo can neither see nor remember her, but he suddenly finds himself crying.
    • Also, Newtwo as a Mew, in the non-canon scenario/dream where Huey got Dialga to change time so that his mom and uncle were never kidnapped by humans and he himself was subsequently never born.
  • Intercontinuity Crossover: Though non-canon in regard to both series' ongoing storylines, the comic occasionally features guest appearances by the characters from another tumblr-based Mewtwo-centric webcomic, Mewtwo and Me, and vice versa.
    • The comic also occasionally does collabs with several other Mewtwo-related webcomic series that have popped up over the years, including the False Twin AU by Pokemon-ash-aus (a comic following the popular fan theory that Delia was once part of Team Rocket, where she rescues two baby Mewtwos when she abandons the organization).
  • Internal Reveal: Ash initially keeps the 'Twos presence in his home a secret, but when both of them are left badly injured from a brutal battle with each other, he brings Professor Oak in to give them medical treatment. Oak is mildly peeved at learning Ash has been hiding this, but understands his reasoning and promises to keep the secret, despite his natural urge to study a heretofore unknown species of Pokémon.
  • Ironic Echo: When Newtwo starts noticing the signs that she's pregnant and wonders if such a thing could be possible, Mewtwo, entirely certain that it is not, casually remarks, "Well if you were expecting, I don't think we would be able to tell either way" (unsurprisingly, the next panel shows him tail-over-head on the floor covered in bruisesnote ). Much later, when Mewtwo comes home with Pig and explains that he had not been pregnant but rather found her in a lab, Newtwo observes, "Well if you had been expecting I don't know if we could tell either way..."
Mewtwo: You're not going to let that go, are you?
    Newtwo: Absolutely not.
  • Ironic Name: Pigment is named after her lack of pigment due to being taken out of incubation too early.
Mewtwo: Her name will be Pigment, because she lacks pigment[...]
  • Irony:
    • Huey, whose mother can't eat spicy foods without practically dying, has a pretty decent spice tolerance; meanwhile, Pigment, whose father can chug hot sauce without breaking a sweat, clearly struggles after one bite of a spicy berry. Their respective parents are completely dumbfounded.
Newtwo: (Where did you get this tolerance?? I made you!!)

Mewtwo: (crying a Single Tear) Are you even my flesh and blood?
    • As a child, Huey decides for some reason that he wants to be red instead of green. Far into the future, not only is his own child born with a very pinkish hue (which Huey assumes is Arceus deliberately screwing with him), but they are upset to the point of tears that they aren't green like their Dada.
Huey: Oh thy Arceus, thou art a heartless bitch.
  • I See Dead People: Pig can see the spirit of Ambertwo.
  • Kick the Dog: Brad the Shaymin, after having been punted like a football by Mewtwo, Mew, and Pig, goes on an angry, insulting tirade against the next member of the species they encounter... who happens to be Huey, generally the nicest of the family, who had never met nor done anything to Brad before then, and who just looks hurt and tears up as they rant at him.
  • Knuckle Cracking: Riolu does this when it spots Darkrai outside, apparently giving nightmares to Mew.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Mewtwo decides to do this to the scientists who created Pig, leaving them otherwise unharmed.
  • Lies to Children: Mewtwo tells Huey that he's green because his mother ate too many lum berries while pregnant with him. Huey accepts this without question, and later complains to a very confused Newtwo that she should have eaten more red berries so he could be red.
  • Lighter and Softer: For a comic centered around the legendary Pokémon Mewtwo, this comic is (usually) very light-hearted, showing going about their daily lives or acting like normal housecats. That isn't to say this comic doesn't have its moments, however.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: In a one-panel non-canon response to the question of why nobody attempted to take down Shadow Mewtwo by grabbing his second neck:
Huey: (looking down at his dismembered arm) Well, shucks.
  • Mama Bear: While Newtwo is tamer than her brother in her protective reactions to her son and niece, she's still willing to scrap with other legendaries and fight her Gaia-crazed brother to protect them.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Newtwo is basically a newer version of Mewtwo, due to coming from a newer movie than Mewtwo.
    • Huetwo, or Huey, is a shiny Pokémon with a different hue than normal Mewtwos.
    • Pigment, or Pig, lacks pigment due to being taken out of incubation early.
  • Mugging the Monster: Team Rocket has gone after Ash and Pikachu at least a few times since Mewtwo came into the picture. Each time they get their asses handed to them by Mewtwo until they give up for good.
  • My Fist Forgives You: After Riolu evolves into Lucario and realizes that Mewtwo's aura wasn't "evil", he apologizes for constantly hitting him when he was a Riolu. Mewtwo forgives him...after kneeing him in the chest.
    Mewtwo: Now we're even.
Lucario: (curled up in pain) That's fair...
  • No Biological Sex: As in the games, Mew and the 'Twos are technically genderless - any presentation of gender, such as pronouns (he/him for Mewtwo and Huey, she/her for Newtwo and Pigment, it/its for Mew), are purely aesthetic for them. Their species' reproduction has nothing to do with sex either; while only Mew and Newtwo have become pregnant, the author has stated that Mewtwo could have become so as well under the right circumstances, and in the far future Huey does end up becoming pregnant and giving birth to a child of his own via the same method as his mother.
  • No Infantile Amnesia: Likely as a result of their immense psychic powers, naturally born Mewtwos (and presumably mews as well) like Huey have incredibly strong memories that extend back to infancy. Huey can even recall the moment he was born, albeit fuzzily. The adult 'Twos also remember their "births", though as Newtwo points out to Huey their situations were a little different. Also subverted with the adults in that neither has any recollection of their brief time as mews - the genetic splicing experiments that made them what they are today completely wiped any memories from before.
    • Their recall isn't always perfect, however - as Huey grouses when asked about the rock-eating incident, just because he remembers doing something doesn't necessarily mean he remembers why he did it.
  • Non Fatal Explosion: One comic has Huey using Self-Destruct, but he doesn't appear to have even fainted.
  • Noodle Incident: The circumstances of Smoothie the Spiritomb joining the cast. All we know is that it involved Huey and Pig on an "offscreen musical adventure".
  • Not Allowed to Grow Up: Zigzagged. Both Huey and Pig are clearly shown aging over time, and both they and the elder 'Twos have celebrated birthdays (implying the passage of years), yet Ash seemingly remains his perpetual 10-year-old self.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: During Mewtwo and Newtwo's brawl following the revelation of the truth of their origins:
Mewtwo: Even now you have to act so gracious in this, martyring yourself for my sake?
Newtwo: You think this is all just for your sake? I was also robbed of my life and made an abomination just. Like. YOU.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: The time Huey ate a rock as a baby. People bringing it up is one of the few things that can put him in a truly grumpy mood.
Huey: (glaring at a questioner who just brought it up again) I'll be pegged as a "rock eater" til the day I die...
  • Open the Iris: The 'Twos (and Mew) while high on pokénip.
  • Papa Wolf: Mewtwo does not take any threats to Pig lightly. He chases away her ghost friends out of fear that they might be a danger to her, and threatens a Honchkrow (which, it should be noted, is immune to his psychic attacks) after it attacks his daughter.
    • He also has his moments of being an "Uncle Wolf" toward Huey.
  • Past Experience Nightmare: Both Mew and the 'Twos have these. Mew, over losing its children and both 'Twos over being held and tortured in Team Rocket labs.
  • Percussive Therapy: Newtwo invokes this on Mewtwo, dragging him off to a remote area and getting him to fight her after he gets angry at Mew after learning the truth about his origins and relation to Mew.
  • Perpetual Frowner: All of the Mewtwos, with the exception of Huey, are like this. Mewtwo does this the most, to the point where Ash and Huey have nicknamed him "Uncle Face".
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: When Newtwo comes perilously close to dying after being stabbed by Shadow Mewtwo, Huey is too distraught to do anything but cry and beg her to stay awake.
Huey: Mama, please, I still need you...
  • Pokémon Speak: All Pokémon except for those who speak telepathically speak this way, only being translated in certain strips:
*Brought to you by the Univeral Lucario Translator*
    • Mew talking to the 'Twos about its connection to them and how it behaved after losing its babies and finding them again as Mewtwos.
  • Power Glows: Most of the 'Twos' moves and Mega Evolutions:
  • Power Incontinence:
    • As a baby, Huey had a tendency to randomly teleport at times while his powers were developing, much to his mother's distress. He gets it more under control as he ages, though one strip that takes place during his "teen" years has him accidentally teleport in his sleep all the way to Hoenn.
    • Baby Pigment, meanwhile, can't always control her Ghost-type ability to phase through solid objects.
  • Practically Different Generations: Huey is somewhere around a century old and with a child of his own when his siblings Lavender and Lilac are born.
  • Premature Birth Drama: Pig is taken out of incubation early, resulting in her being completely unresponsive afterward and Mewtwo rushing her to Prof. Oak. She ends up part ghost and is very pale.
  • Put on a Bus: Riolu is often nowhere to be found during the more dramatic parts of the story. At one point he is said to be on a field trip with Kyogre as an explanation of his absence.
  • Rage Breaking Point: After one Butt-Monkey incident too many, Brad the shaymin snaps and goes on a furious ranting tirade. Unfortunately, they do so against Huey while Mewtwo is in earshot.
  • Rainbow Puke: One comic has Baby Huey doing this, right after Newtwo bragged about making him. Scarfy promptly complimented her for her "great workmanship".
  • Running Gag:
    • The 'Twos being completely immobilised by anything grabbing their second necks.
    • Mewtwo's "tender tummy", rendering him unable to stomach much else than bitter or spicy foods. Similarly, Newtwo being unable to handle anything remotely spicy.
    • Before Riolu evolved into Lucario, he would often try to punch Mewtwo in the gut.
    • The Twos scolding Ash whenever he does something stupid that would have killed literally anyone else.
    • Huey breaking mugs as a newborn, or even BEFORE he was born.
    • Mew proudly showing off its children and grandchildren to the other Legendaries.
    • Huey wanting to be red.
    • Mewtwo's insides being full of glitter from when Huey got some in his tea and he drank it anyway.
  • Security Blanket: For Pigment, the clefairy doll Professor Oak gave her to keep her company in her incubation chamber. When one of its arms comes undone she's distraught until her father fixes it.
  • Sibling Seniority Squabble: The 'Twos eventually get around to asking Mew which of them was born first. It turns out to be Mewtwo, by ten minutes. Mewtwo immediately starts lording this information over his sister.
Newtwo: I swear to Arceus if you're going to hold this over my head—
Mewtwo: Come now, when I was your age while making my tea—
Newtwo: THAT WAS TEN MINUTES AGO!!
  • Slice of Life: The comic mostly consists of Mew and the Mewtwos going about their lives in Ash's house, with occasional dips into heavy subjects or longer story arcs.
  • Small Parent, Huge Child: Downplayed; Huey as an adult ends up the tallest of the family at 7' 5", a good ten inches above his mother.
  • Sophisticated as Hell: Occasional cameo appearances by the various Legendary Pokémon, godlike beasts responsible for the creation and structuring of the universe, sometimes have them speaking in very informal manners.
    • Palkia, the Legendary master of space itself, on their reason for not obliging Huey's request to make him red:
      Palkia: I don't wanna.
    • Giratina, the great and terrifying ruler of the Distortion World, on the question of whether Mewtwo has to worry about them being protective after the "football" incident with Brad the Shaymin:
Giratina: (over Brad's angry ranting) Naw man, I get it...
  • Suddenly Voiced: While Smoothie the Spiritomb is a Silent Snarker in the comic, the official dub has him speak, though its mostly muttering that's usually very hard to make out.
  • Super Mode: Mewtwo goes the Fanon route of turning into Mega Mewtwo X to counter Newtwo's Y transformation. On a sillier note, Mewtwo used it to threaten Ash into getting bed rest after getting injured.
  • Take That!: The Shaymin named Brad is based on how TC loathed the bratty Shaymin from Giratina and the Sky Warrior.
  • Tampering with Food and Drink: Mew, in a well-meaning attempt to help Mewtwo de-stress, adds some pokénip to his tea at one point. However, this coincided with Mewtwo and Newtwo being in the middle of a spat regarding each other's beverages of choice, which culminated in Newtwo spitefully grabbing Mewtwo's tea and chugging it all down just to prove a point... and, subsequently, Newtwo's first pokénip experience.
  • That Thing Is Not My Child!: Initially, Mew's reaction upon first encountering Mewtwo on New Island. Seeing for the first time what the humans had done to its child, it couldn't accept that this was the same being and angrily dismissed Mewtwo as nothing but an imposter using its child's body, hence its taunting about how the clones could never match up to the originals. It was only after their fight and Ash's near-death that Mew realized it was wrong, much to its shame.
  • The Only Way They Will Learn:
    • When Huey insists on playing in hail, Newtwo eventually obliges. The hail hitting and hurting him sends him heading straight back inside.
    • After finally getting his hands on the spicy ramen that he was denied as a baby, Huey ignores his mother's warnings not to eat too much too fast, declaring that nothing will stop him. Needless to say, he ends up with a belly ache.
    • Pig constantly disobeys Mewtwo's orders not to run off into the forest in the middle of the night and even escapes from his grasp when he tries to take her home. Eventually, she crashes into a Honchkrow and gets attacked, making her really change her tune.
  • Tragic Stillbirth: Almost the case with the younger of Newtwo's future twins, Lilac, but fortunately averted as Huey is able to resuscitate her.
  • Wacky Cravings: While pregnant with Huey, Newtwo craved the incredibly spicy Tamato berry, to her immense displeasure.
  • Worth It: In the far future, Pigment doesn't tell anyone when she becomes pregnant with Stain and goes through the entire labor alone without any help, all just so she can see the expressions on her family's faces when she suddenly shows up with a baby.
  • You Are Not Alone: Newtwo expresses this to Mewtwo, in the aftermath of his breakdown over the revelation of them being Mew's stolen children.
Mewtwo: I just don't know how much more of this I can take. Every time I've been so sure of who I am at last, I've been wrong. What more can happen now...
(Newtwo puts a hand on his shoulder)
Newtwo: At least whatever more can happen, you aren't at it alone. When all is said and done, we are blood. Not just from being the same species.
    • Later on, Mewtwo returns the favor:
Mewtwo: You're right. I should discuss what happened with Mew. But when I do, you'll need to be with us.
Newtwo: No, this is a matter between the both of you, you're the one that has the history on New Island, I don't...
(Mewtwo puts a hand on her shoulder)
Mewtwo: This is a matter between Mew and its children. You are one of its children.
