Wei Wei is a thirty-four year old optometrist living by herself. One night, she picks up a woman at a bar and has sex with her. The next morning Wei Wei becomes a bit preoccupied about how young she looks and gets nervous about the prospect of having slept with a university student. While going through her belongings, Wei Wei learns that the "woman" is even younger than she expected: she's a sixteen year old girl!
Beloved is a Chinese webcomic by Jaeliu that follows the relationship between Wei Wei and a secondary schooler named Ding Yi.
Beloved contains examples of:
- Age-Gap Romance: Wei Wei freaks out when she notices how young Ding Yi is. She's upset at how she had sex with an university-aged student. As it turns out, Ding Yi is even younger than that—she's sixteen. Wei Wei tries to avoid her, however they do end up falling in love.
- Blackmail: One of Wei Wei's co-worker learns that she slept with a high schooler and uses it against her.
- Dude Looks Like a Lady: Lin was this way when he was a child. Ding Yi sees a picture of him and mistakes him for a girl. Wei also thought he was a girl at first glance. He was slim and pretty until high school.
- Mistaken Age: Wei thought Ding Yi was older than she really was when they slept together.
- Mistaken for Suicidal: Wei Wei mistakes Ding Yi for suicidal early on. She was just looking over a railing.
- Relatively Flimsy Excuse: Wei Wei says that Ding Yi is her cousin's daughter in order to explain why she has her number.
- Younger Than They Look: Ding Yi was born in 2000, making her only 16. She looks youthful but can still pass for someone in her early 20s.
