The video was released on YouTube on May 17, 2016 and can be found here.

Tropes

  • Ambiguous Situation: It's unclear why the Telepath retained her powers, despite seemingly having just been released and whether she was always the Wakandan in disguise or if that man actually exists.
  • Amnesiac Hero: As a consequence of losing her powers, Rain doesn't remember anything about her past.
  • Amnesiac Resonance: This appears to be where Rain's fighting skills come from.
  • Bad Future: It's set in a dark future where mutants are now captured and experimented on until their powers are removed, which as a consequence results in amnesia. Once they have been "cured", they are simply left on the streets to be killed by the criminals, despite the MNI claiming they are helped with being reintegrated into society. The X-Men are meanwhile implied to either be dead or also depowered, leaving nobody around to save the mutants.
  • Bittersweet Ending: More on the bitter side of things, but while the X-Men are seemingly all dead and mutants are suffering everyday, Rain recalls her past as Storm and seemingly goes to save her daughter, though it's unclear whether she will succeed. It's also shown that mutants can recall their pasts which restores their powers, meaning there is hope for them to one day fight back.
  • The Cameo: Wolverine, credited as J. Howlett, appears for a brief second when Rain is starting to recall her past. Her visions of people with bags covering their faces and being murdered is possibly meant to be the X-Men.
  • Canon Foreigner: Rain has a daughter, which Storm isn't shown to have in alternate futures shown in the comics.
  • Captain Ersatz: Rain is obviously meant to be Storm of the X-Men, but to avoid copyright she isn't called this. She is however briefly referred to as Munroe, which is Storm's surname in the comics.
  • Darker and Edgier: Fitting that it's a gritty and violent alternate future for the X-Men, it's incredibly brutal and starts with Rain almost being raped, while she ends up killing her attacker by slitting his throat with a knife.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: This is a consequence of mutants being depowered by the MNI. Except not really, in truth it's losing their memories which stops them from using their powers.
  • Lawyer-Friendly Cameo: Despite clearly being based on the X-Men, the film avoids using any recognisable names. Storm is called Rain and briefly Munroe by an MNI guard, the X-Men are referred to only as a group of heroes, and Wolverine is briefly seen in a small flashback but is called J. Howlett in the credits.
  • Mythology Gag: Rain's outfit is obviously based on Storm's popular punk look.
  • Name Amnesia: Rain has no idea who she is and only settles on her name after have a few visions of a storm.
  • No Name Given: The Telepath's name isn't revealed.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: The main MNI guard is later shown to not only hate mutants, but is misogynistic and racist to Rain.
  • Sole Survivor: Zig-Zagged. It at first appears that Rain is this for the X-Men, but it's later implied that like her others might have been depowered and later regained their memories.
  • Trauma-Induced Amnesia: It's implied this is how depowering and the resulting memory loss is caused, as when the film starts an interviewer describes the depowering process as torture.
