Maxwell's World XB1 is an extensive quest mod for Fallout 4 that takes the Sole Survivor to a creepy haunted amusement park where they'll have to face living rides, fiendish traps and an entire army of undead monsters. After following a radio broadcast, the Sole Survivor comes across a woman named Gale looking for her sister Jenna, who disappeared somewhere at Maxwell's World, the titular Amusement Park of Doom. She doubts that her sister is still alive since no one has ever escaped from Maxwell's World, but still hires the player to head off to the park just in case. From there, you're free to decide your own path and figure out how to overcome the nightmarish scenario you've found yourself in...

This Game Mod contains examples of:

  • Action Girl: Jenna is a veteran treasure hunter who fights just as well as the likes of Piper and Cait.
  • Affably Evil: Maxwell himself is very polite and friendly with the player despite wanting to trap them inside his amusement park forever.
  • Almighty Janitor: Stoat, literally. He knows how to escape the park and even uses a broom in combat.
  • Amusement Park of Doom: Maxwell's World really gives Nuka World a run for its money in this department and has everything from killer roller coasters to undead park guests and even cursed cotton candy.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: There are several points where the player is attacked by giant carnival rides.
  • Big Bad: Maxwell, the one who created Maxwell's World.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Stoat is a native of Maxwell's World and looks like a living skeleton. Despite this, he hates his boss Maxwell and tries to help anyone who gets trapped inside the park escape.
  • Deal with the Devil: Accepting any help from Maxwell is portrayed as this. The items and equipment he offers are all incredibly powerful and useful... but using them places the player further under Maxwell's influence and negatively impacts the ending.
  • Dem Bones: Stoat and a few of the enemies appear to be walking skeletons.
  • Down the Drain: One section of the park has the player enter the piping network of some sort of water ride. Inside they find several dead fish, some miniature boats and even an abandoned Nuka Cola machine!
  • Evil Old Folks: Maxwell is an insane old man seeking to trap hapless travelers and looters inside his park for all eternity. Disturbingly, his personality is basically that of a kindly old grandfather who deeply enjoys spending time with his "guests" and playing games with them.
  • Expy: Maxwell, of Walt Disney. An entertainment mogul and amusement park tycoon, with Maxwell's World being a stand-in for Disneyland, down to similar locations. There's even Maxwell's frozen corpse in the True Ending, paying homage to the urban legend surrounding Walt.
  • Family Relationship Switcheroo: Gale and Jenna are mother and daughter respectively. They can pass for sisters since Gale is a synth and therefore dosen't age.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Andy and Andrea, the two Sir Swears-a-Lot robots. Andy alternates between talking about how much he wants to force-feed the player food and genuinely trying to sell them useful items, while Andrea belittles the player and makes fun of their dead spouse.
  • Horned Humanoid: In at least one of the endings, Maxwell unveils a more demonic form with devilish horns sprouting from his head.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Stoat uses a broom in combat.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: There is a lot of evidence pointing towards both possibilities and a lot of room for speculation as well. However, in the worst ending, Maxwell will scold you for just accepting what your companions believe, and not searching for the other pieces of evidence.
Maxwell: I mean really? Spookems and demons? You're an adult for god's sake! How could you possibly believe that? I went along with that game thinking they were all acting, but you bust out holy water, and it turns out you're in far worse shape than I thought. If you think it was the act of The Devil that brought all this about, you're gonna have to think again.
  • Monster Clown: The Feral Clowns, which are feral ghouls dressed in clown outfits.
  • Multiple Endings: There are several different endings that the player will receive based on the choices they make at the park. Whether or not the player let their companions die or if they used any of the cursed items offered by Andy and Andrea also affect the ending.
  • Older Than They Look: Maxwell and Jenna.
  • Spiritual Successor: Maxwell's World bares a striking resemblance to Dead Money in atmosphere, gameplay and even story, while the setting and uniquely-designed feral ghouls bring Nuka World to mind.
  • There's No Kill like Overkill: When the player finds Gale, she threatens them with over a dozen turrets of various types mounted on the roof of her house. You'd think she was expecting a behemoth or deathclaw to drop by...
