• Banned in China:
  • This episode was never broadcasted in Japan for fears that it might offend the Japanese^note Specifically, the Hello Kitty factory burning live cats, the scene with Battling Seizure Robots (especially after the whole "Electric Soldier Porygon" fiasco that happened around this time), Homer tossing the Japanese emperor into a sumo thong Dumpster (depictions of the Emperor, especially ones as unflattering as this, are forbidden in Japanese culture), and the sadistic Japanese game show. The episode is even missing from the season 10 DVD release in Japan, so if you're in Japan and you love this episode of The Simpsons, good luck trying to find it elsewhere.
    • Ironically, this episode became quite popular among Japanese Simpsons fans, to the extent that the fanclub made their own adaption with a lot of twist added to entertain Japanese fans (including references to the Japanese celebrities), featuring original voice actors that were starred in the Japanese dub.
  • It was also banned from broadcast in South Korea due to the episode being full of Japanese culture, and the tensions between Korea and Japan during the 20th century. However, the Season 10 DVD boxset still has it intact (unlike in the Japanese import), except it's in English with Korean subtitles.
• Deleted Scene: Marge tells everyone to feed the piggy bank money so that they can save up for a family vacation to Japan.
• Technology Marches On: Internet cafés are very tied to the late '90s, whereas today even regular cafes offer wi-fi, but almost none offer desktop computers. And even though there's no way Snake could have ever stolen the Simpsons' money by inserting a disk into a computer, several generations of storage formats have made the floppy disk he uses obsolete.
• Working Title: "Fat Man and Little Boy", which was eventually used as the title for a season 16 episode.
