  • Technology Marches On:
    • "And where did you get the Internet?" would have been a reasonable question to ask a child in 2001, when the episode was produced. Just ten years later, with the rise of smartphones and social media, it would have been unthinkable for a ten-year-old boy not to have some form of Internet access. In fact, this one marched on so quickly that in "Information Stupor Highway", aired just ten months later, Timmy does have Internet access.
    • VHS was already a dying format by the time the episode aired: Timmy's dad even advises him to steal a DVD player instead of the VCR Francis stole. Just a few years later, it's unlikely the Wall-2-Wall Mart would have had any VCRs for Francis to steal, and with the slow death of physical media during The New '20s, they may not have DVD players anymore either.
    • Modern-day security cameras would store their recordings digitally, either to an SD card or on a remote server, which would have made it much harder for Timmy to steal the footage to show his innocence.
  • What Could Have Been: As revealed in the early mini bible, the episode was originally going to have the issue be from Timmy having his friends Chester and A.J. at his house playing “Dungeons and Dragons” and Timmy having to keep his friends distracted. Whereas the final focused more on Timmy's parents thinking he was shoplifting. Jorgen also wasn't stated to be the inspector.
