- Back in his amateur wrestling days, Akira Maeda personally offered Nakamura a contract to compete in both professional wrestling and Mixed Martial Arts in his promotion Fighting Network RINGS, but Shinsuke refused in order to pursue a career in New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
- Nakamura was slated to wrestle an anticipated singles match with Naoya Ogawa in the 2004 NJPW Toukon Festival. However, Naka proceeded to all but scream his intentions to shoot on Ogawa in revenge for a similar attack on the late Shinya Hashimoto five years before, and when Ogawa heard of this, he went out of his way to be removed from the match, so the lucrative plans were scrapped for good and the two men were relegated to separate tag team matches. Nakamura didn't get away with the lost chance, though, because Inoki put him to wrestle Kazuyuki Fujita in the Festival and ordered Fujita to legitimately brutalize Shinsuke as a punishment.
- In an interview in 2017, Nakamura revealed that after the end of his MMA tenure in 2005, he was contacted by Ultimate Fighting Championship to continue fighting for them, but he turned the offer down and continued working for New Japan.
