• Reality Subtext: The whole "Network" angle derived from ECW's actual problems with TNN. Within this angle, his complaint against ECW commentator and all-around king of innuendos Joel Gertner, that Gertner was "getting himself over at the expense of the talent", was bitten straight from the reason the WWF gave for firing Callis at the end of the previous year.^note His using this rationale as a censorious heel was obviously a subtle Take That! to the WWF for practically setting him up to do just that by having him literally cut his promos over his stables' matches, then punishing him for it. • What Could Have Been: Callis as the WWF's Jackyl in 1997-98 may have been Plan A for the Higher Power in The Undertaker's Ministry of Darkness. The Jackyl was a cult-leader dressed in all black with charismatic brainwashing prowess, Cthulhu Mythos-inspired occult symbolism, and revolutionary ambitions to become the leader of the WWF. Furthermore, he was the one who first put Faarooq and Bradshaw together as the Acolytes in late 1998 and managed them before their allegiance to the Undertaker's Ministry was revealed.
