Trivia / Dissidia Final Fantasy (2015)

Go To

  • Acclaimed Flop: Despite receiving overall decent to positive critical reception, the game sold poorly according to the developers. They hoped that the updates from 2018-2019 would produce good sales, but when that failed, the game was essentially abandoned.
  • Actor Allusion: One of Rinoa's alternate costumes uses the color palette of the uniforms of Class Zero from Final Fantasy Type-0, where her Japanese voice actress Kana Hanazawa also voices Deuce, one of Type-0's fourteen playable characters.
  • Executive Meddling: According to BenjaMage's video here, the more questionable design flaws (3v3 focus, bare minimum story mode, etc.) were due to the game development's lead pushing for it to be an esports game by copying other, successful ones in that genre. Needless to say, this didn't appeal to that audience and alienated both Final Fantasy fans and the Fighting Game Community, preventing it from even having a role at big tournaments like EVO, CEO, and Combo Breaker.
  • Flip-Flop of God: Early in production for the original arcade version, the game was said to be a Continuity Reboot of the Dissidia series, which was seemingly confirmed by the reveal of Materia and Spiritus as the new gods with a different sort of conflict. However, once the NT version got a proper storyline, this was axed, as the characters remember Cosmos and the cycles of war, and the Warrior of Light refers to Materia as "one who has inherited her will."
  • Meme Acknowledgement: Garland's famous "knock you all down" is given explicit reference in NT, via an optional chat message (the entire quote verbatim) and the title received for getting him to Lv 10 (He Who Knocks Down)
  • Pre-Order Bonus: Pre-ordering NT got you one of three special steel book cases. Depending on where you pre-ordered, you could also have gotten a special weapon for Garland or Cloud.
  • Role Reprise: In addition to every returning character from previous Dissidia games retaining their respective voice actors (except for Garland, whose Japanese VA passed away, and Exdeath, who was Darrin'd in Japan), as well as newcomers retaining their VAs from their respective games, Phil LaMarr reprises his role as Ramza Beoulve after ten years.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The representative for XIV DLC wise was apparently heavily debated prior to the games release. The three characters originally discussed were Nael van Darnus, Zenos yae Gavlvus, and Alphinaud Leveilleur. Due to Stormblood being the current expansion at the time, it was decided that Zenos better fit into the game.
    • With the game's active development getting discontinued as of March 2020, a lot of plans never came to fruition. Square Enix said on launch they had plans for the game five years out, and datamining from 2019 suggests they weren't kidding.
      • Data exists not only for the remaining characters left out from 012 (Laguna, Prishe, and Gilgamesh), but also suggests that Zack Fair and Vivi were going to be included.
      • A lot of characters didn't get third costumes when the game ended, but the datamine shows that most everyone had a third costume planned. Y'shtola's datamined costume name, however, implied she would have gotten her Miner's garb from XIV instead of her Shadowbringers outfit.
      • In the end everyone has four HP attacks, but the datamine suggests characters would have gotten a fifth one. This is a particular sore point, as the names in the data imply that these fifth HP attacks were going to be their iconic Limit Breaks (Fervid Blazer for Firion, Lion Heart for Squall, Blitz Ace for Tidus, etc).
