• Actor-Shared Background: Throughout the movie Tom mentions that Meredith won the Miss New Mexico pageant. Demi Moore is originally from New Mexico.
• Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: There was a massive outcry in the UK over the film, mainly because of the poster and the advertising slogan ("Sex is Power"). Several media outlets accused the film of being outright pornographic, and even called for it to be banned. In actual fact, there is no nudity of any sort in the film, and only one actual sex scene (where most of the "action" is just off screen and conveyed through dialogue, no less).
• Dyeing for Your Art: Demi Moore biked 28 miles every morning pre-dawn to get in shape for this film. She'd given birth to her third child a month before she was cast.
• Money, Dear Boy: Barry Levinson admitted in interviews he took on directing this film because he needed a hit after the failures of Toys and Jimmy Hollywood.
• Technology Marches On: The technology seen in the story would have been very cool at the time, but it's hilariously dated to modern viewers. Let's just say that nobody's using a portable CD-ROM player to read books on the bus...
• What Could Have Been:
  • Annette Bening, Geena Davis, and Michelle Pfeiffer were considered for the role of Meredith.
  • Miloš Forman was originally attached to direct but left the film due to creative differences with Michael Crichton.
