• Creator Backlash: As mentioned on the tropes page, the comic became (in)famous on the Escher Girls blog in the mid-2010's for it's overuse of Boobs-and-Butt Pose and Most Common Superpower, with contributors sending in their own redraws of the comic panels. Randy Queen sent a takedown request to tumblr, accusing the blog of, through their redraws, of plagiarizing his work, and even tried to take them to court. He would later apologize on his Facebook after the subsequent fan-backlash.

• Follow the Leader: The franchise's trajectory can be suspiciously mirrored to that of Witch Blade, though with far less success. Both had poorly received OEL Manga's (though Witchblade's eventually got an anime, an attempted live-action project (though successful in Witchblade's case), and both tried appealing to the YA-market in the mid-2010s (a novel in Darkchyldes case, a comic in Witchblades.
  • Word of God: Randy Queen has said that for the original mini-series he was heavily inspired by Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and upon learning that a series was in the works, wanted to make something in a similar vein before the market was oversaturated with similar series.
