Trivia / Dangaioh

Go To

  • Accidental Downer Ending: Episode 3 ends with Dangaioh destroyed, the team's mentor and Dangaioh's inventor dead, and the team floating in space inside life pods. A continuation was planned, but the staff struggled to figure out how to make one with how badly they'd written themselves into a corner, and most of them moved on to projects that were actually moving forward.
  • Franchise Ownership Acquisition: When AIC negotiated with Toei Agency to share some of their franchise copyrights in April 2021, it included the rights to Dangaioh.
  • Production Posse: Much of the production crew from Iczer-1 worked on this series as well, on top of this, Mayumi Sho voices the protagonists of both series.
  • Role Reprise: In Great Dangaioh, Mayumi Sho reprises her role as Mia Alice 12 years after her last appearance in the Dangaioh OVA.
  • Stillborn Franchise: It was supposed to be longer than 3 episodes and was supposed to have a sequel, but that never happened resulting in the OVA's ending on a cliffhanger, and Great Dangaioh was supposed to be 26 episodes, but it was so poorly received by both fans and critics that the series cut to 13 episodes and once again ended on a cliffhanger, effectively ensuring that the Dangaioh series as a whole would never get a proper ending, let alone resolve the OVA's events. To seal the deal, creator Toshihiro Hirano declared the franchise "cursed" and vowed never to work on it again.
  • You Sound Familiar: Akira Kamiya voices Roll Kran in the original Dangaioh OVA as well as Susumu Amagi in Great Dangaioh.
