Tropes:

  • A Boy and His X: Or rather, a girl and her cursor.
  • Aerith and Bob: Bri and Squishy.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: In "Connected", Alexis and her friends attack Bri for not finding a prank funny, threatening to tell them on their teacher, and being a nerdy cursor girl.
  • Character Development: Bri goes from a shy computer nerd to a friendly one during the events of "Connected". Also from the same episode, Alexis transforms from a bully into one of Bri's closest friends.
  • Everyone Owns a Mac: Granted, as this is an Apple TV+ series.
  • First Day of School Episode: “Connected”.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: Bri's seemingly innocent prank of clicking and dragging soup over the bullies in “Connected” gets them sent to the nurse's office with broken bones.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Alexis was one of the three girls who bullied Bri on the first day of school (the others being Ella and Ashley). When Squishy heals her, though, she has a change of heart, and she sides with Bri and Jaidyn against her former friends.
  • Honesty Is the Best Policy: The Aesop of the first episode.
  • Magical Computer: Bri's computer mouse can control Squishy in the real world, with the abilities to click, drag, select, and do anything that is present on the right click menu of a computer.
  • Meaningful Name: Engelbart High School is named after Douglas Engelbart, inventor of the computer mouse.
  • Meaningful Rename: Squishy was originally named Cursor, and only received her new name after Bri made friends with Jaidyn.
  • Nerd Glasses: Bri wears glasses and is into computers.
  • School Newspaper News Hound: Rachel, a journalist for the school newspaper, will go to any length to expose Squishy and the Cursor Girls.
  • Seamless Spontaneous Lie: When Jessica catches Bri talking to Squishy in the car in "Connected", Bri claims that she's talking to an imaginary friend. To practice making friends, of course.
  • Shout-Out: The names of the teen characters are based on the stars of the defunct YouTube channel “SevenSuperGirls
  • Urban Fantasy: The series takes place in Los Angeles, California, and features magical elements.

YMMV:

  • Ho Yay: Some fans ship Bri and Jaidyn.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Quite a few fans side with Alexis in the first episode's conflict, believing that their fate was a result of their own insecurities.
