Recap / Tracker S1E4 "Trust"

Go To

Cole is chasing an Enixian and tackles him to the ground, but the Enixian gets ahold of his collector and threatens to take Cole's life force. The Enixian is distracted by the appearance of another fugitive, allowing Cole to overpower him and collect his life force. The other fugitive introduces himself as Nestov, whom Cole recognizes as a con man, and asks for Cole's help. At Mel's bar, Nestov explains that he found $2 million in cash in a briefcase his host Darius Foley was carrying, and then someone took a shot at him. Zin took the money but refused to help him. Cole agrees to look into his story. They go to Foley's apartment and learn that he was a painter. Meanwhile, a man named Nicholas Tavoulis had his daughter Lina kidnapped and placed in a water tank that is filling up with water. He agrees to pay the kidnappers $2 million and drops the cases with the money into water as per the kidnappers' instructions. The money is fished out by his right-hand man Carver, who turns out to be one of the kidnappers. Cole and Nestov arrive to the kidnapping location and split up. Nestov is held at gunpoint by the supposed kidnapped victim Lina, who is actually in on the plan to swindle her father out of the money. Lina tosses the man she thinks is Darius into the water tank and flees. Cole chases her down and stops her and Carver. He returns to find that Nestov has almost drowned and breaks the tank. Cole assumed Nestov was a Nodulian and could breathe underwater, but Nestov reveals that he's a Desserian and faked his prison records. Cole decides to let Nestov go and work as his informant. Meanwhile, Jess wants to have a ladies' night at the bar with a male stripper dancing on the counter. When the stripper doesn't show up, Cole steps in and does the job.

  • Con Man: The reason Nestov was in SAR TOP, unlike most of the other prisoners.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Nestov claims to be a good driver, but turns out to only know what the pedals and the steering wheel do. He doesn't know, for example, that he needs to stop on red or to stay in his own lane.
  • Faked Kidnapping: Lina Tavoulis and her two accomplices staged a kidnapping of her, so they could swindle her father out of $2 million. The plan went awry when Darius's body was possessed by Nestov and when Zin took the money he was carrying. When Cole arrives to the location, Lina tosses Nestov into the water tank and plays the Wounded Gazelle Gambit.
  • I Have Your Index: Cole and Nestov learn that Darius Foley was involved in the kidnapping of Lina Tavoulis, the daughter of Nicholas Tavoulis. The girl's glass tank is slowly filling with water and will drown her, unless her father pays $2 dollars.
  • Literal-Minded: Nestov learns quickly that Cole doesn't understand humor and sarcasm. Cole proves him wrong in the end, though.
  • MacGyvering: Cole turns Mel's iron into a device that can emit and receive sonic vibrations, which he uses to retrieve a conversation from a painting, stored in the paint while it was drying.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Cole dances on a bar counter at the end of the episode, while undressing.
  • Poor Communication Kills: This nearly happens to Nestov, whom Cole leaves in the tank full of water, assuming Nestov to be a Nodulian, a race of water-breathers. In fact, Nestov is a Desserian and simply faked his prison records in order to plan his eventual escape.
  • Wouldn't Hit a Girl: After knocking out Carver, Cole walk towards Lina. She references the trope. Cole agrees that he wouldn't hit a girl... but he has no problem tying her up and tossing her in the trunk for her father and the police to find.
