Jack: (to Liz) Where did you two meet? An Amber Alert?
  • Closet Key: Jamie is this for Frank.
  • Coming-Out Story: Frank discovers he's sexually attracted to Jamie, then discovers he's not gay—the only male he's sexually attracted to is Jamie.
  • Bisexual Love Triangle: Naive Jamie finds himself in one between Liz, a woman interested in him, and Frank, a male coworker of Liz's who is interested in Jamie.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: Jamie the young coffee delivery guy is so attractive that even Frank wants him.
  • Everyone Has Standards: When Frank expresses interest in Jamie, everyone mockingly calls him gay. After seeing that he's genuinely lovestruck, they stop to the disappointment of Lutz.
  • Exact Words: To prove she's just as much a cougar as Liz, Jenna begins dating Aidan, who says he's a freshman. Jenna assumes he means at a university, but his appearance and behavior clearly implies high school.
  • If It's You, It's Okay: After an embarrassing trip to a gay bar, Frank decides he's only gay for Jamie.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Liz lampshades both Frank's crush on Jamie after he retracts his label.
Liz: You can't be gay for just one person unless you're a woman and you meet Ellen.
  • Incompatible Orientation: Frank, who may be bisexual, for Jamie, who is straight.
  • Love Triangle: Liz/Jamie/Frank.
  • Mrs. Robinson:
    • Before the date, Liz gets cold feet, but she is encouraged to attend by Jenna, who declares Liz a cougar, a term describing "hot older ladies pouncing on their young prey".
    • In order to become a cougar herself, Jenna starts to date Aidan, a teenage freshmen at New York University. Jenna breaks up with Aidan when he starts to annoy her by wearing heelies and playing portable video games and acting like Jenna is his mother.
  • No Bisexuals: Frank who's a womanizer, now claims to be gay. For Jamie. Everybody tells him that's not a thing and nobody in-universe considers the possibility that Frank could be bisexual nor even heard of it.
  • Shout-Out:
    • One of the coworkers calls Liz "Maude" and her date Jamie "Harold" for dating younger.
    • Liz compares herself to Demi Moore while dating Jamie, referencing to Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher's age-gap romance.
    • Frank tells Jamie he can't stand their whole "Sam-Diane situation" and asks him what does he think about him, only to be turned down by Jamie.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: The heterosexual Frank finds himself crushing on Jamie and only Jamie.
Frank: (to Liz) I can't. I'm gay for Jamie.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Frank for Jamie, much to Liz's annoyance.
  • Stop Being Stereotypical: As Frank leaves a gay bar full of stereotypically gay-looking men, one man shouts to Frank to come back sometime in a very effeminate voice, prompting his dance partner to berate him for "making us all look bad." They then return to bumping and grinding.
  • Where Everybody Knows Your Flame: Frankie goes to a gay bar to explore his sexuality and realizes he's only gay for Jamie.
