Recap / The Simpsons S 22 E 9 Donnie Fatso

Go To

An FBI agent and Homer (who's trying to work off his criminal charge for bribery) infiltrate Fat Tony's mob, and meet Fat Tony's cousin, Fit Tony.

Tropes:

  • Big "NO!": Comic Book Guy when he fails to prevent Homer's ice cream from melting.
  • Bribe Backfire: Homer was sent to prison for attempted bribery.
  • Can't Get Away with Nuthin': To replenish government funds, the new laws make it so many things people do normally are heavily fined crimes. They even work so people will be forced to commit more crimes since complaining about being fined, and adding up the total of your fines is also illegal.
  • Continuity Nod: In "The Mook, the Chef, the Wife and her Homer", Fat Tony mentioned his deceased wife Anna Maria. After he died, he was buried next to her grave.
  • Exact Words: At his trial, Homer requested for a side bar. Once the judge granted it, he tried to whack Bart with it.
  • Idiot Ball: Even for Homer, leaving a bag full of money clearly marked "bribe" on a desk in the middle of city hall and not expecting to be arrested is a stretch.
  • Keeping the Enemy Close: Fit Tony deconstructs this by stating his enemies could easily strike him if he kept them close.
  • Killed Off for Real: Fat Tony, who is replaced with his cousin, Fit Tony.
  • Mistaken for Prank Call: Says Fat Tony, "When I call for my Russian business partner, Yuri Nator, I don't expect to be screamed at like I was some ten year old punk making a prank call!" Naturally, this causes him to plot revenge on Moe.
  • No Sympathy: The FBI doesn't give Homer any condolences in his grief after Fat Tony's death. At best, they compliment him for being a "snitchy rat bastard". They don't let him keep the blanket either.
  • Real Joke Name: Fat Tony once called Moe's looking for his Russian associate Yuri Nator and was shocked to be threatened in response.
  • Series Continuity Error: When Moe got caught setting his bar on fire, he explained it was either that or installing a ladies lounge. In The Homer They Fall, Moe told Homer that he turned a woman's bathroom into his office because no women have ever come in the bar.
  • Shout-Out: To The Wizard of Oz when Moe tried to find a place where he could suggest Homer to bribe his way out of his New Year fines.
  • String Theory: The FBI had one to show Homer to demonstrate the hierarchy of Fat Tony's mob until Honer touched it, accidentally making it fall on the paper shredder located below the board.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Fat Tony's cousin Fit Tony, who looked like Fat Tony except for being fit instead of fat but even that eventually changed and Fit Tony is now Fat Tony.
  • Take That!: The FBI is described as "out of control".
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Despite the Continuity Nod to "The Mook, the Chef, the Wife and her Homer" referencing Fat Tony's late wife, and the fact that her grave describes her as a "Loving wife and mother", there is no mention at all of Michael, not even when his father dies, making him an orphan.
