Go To

Airdate: 1989

When Melissa's ex-boyfriend, Troy Malone, comes to visit her, Ralph tries to win back her affection.

The Sky's the Limit! contains examples of:

  • An Aesop: Be Yourself; people like you for who you are, not what you think they want you to be.
  • Always Someone Better: Not only does Ralph envy Troy's heroism, but he also worries that Melissa is genuinely attracted to Troy.
  • Chained to a Railway: During Ralph's Fantasy Sequence, Melissa is seen tied to a railroad track and Ralph saves her from an incoming train.
  • Chew-Out Fake-Out: After Ralph crashes Cyril's plane, he thinks he's in trouble when Cyril comes over to him. However, Cyril thinks Ralph crashing the plane was some kind of impressive stunt and thinks about making stunt shows about it.
  • Clip Its Wings: Ralph accidentally flies Cyril's plane too close to a pillar, causing one of the wings to break off. He crashes soon after.
  • Fantasy Sequence: During "All Life Long", Ralph has a daydream where he becomes a Superman Substitute and impresses Melissa with his heroics.
  • For Halloween, I Am Going as Myself: Troy attends the costume party dressed in his usual pilot jumpsuit.
  • It's All About Me: Troy boasts about his accomplishments, dresses as himself at a costume party, and generally tries to be the center of attention. It's because of his ego that Melissa prefers Ralph's modesty.
  • Meet Cute: Ralph says in this episode that he met Melissa when he accidentally spilled coffee on her.
  • Omniglot: Troy claims he's fluent in 10 different languages, though this may be more of an Informed Ability as the audience only hears him speaking English.
  • One-Shot Character: Not counting a flashback to this episode in "The Evergreen Election!", this is the only episode that Troy Malone appears in.
  • "Take That!" Kiss: After Troy beats Ralph in the race, he asks Melissa if the winner should receive a kiss, clearly expecting one from her. Melissa agrees...and kisses Ralph on the lips instead.
