Episode 4 of the second series of The Office (UK). Tim and Rachel are now an item, to the ire of Dawn and Gareth, while David is preparing for his motivational speech.
Tropes:
- Ambiguously Bi: After David's latest fall out with Neil, Gareth starts giving David a shoulder and neck massage.
- Armor-Piercing Question: Simon's riposte to Tim's snarky comments during his conversation with Gareth.Gone off Dawn now have you?
- Break the Motivational Speaker: Inverted here, as David manages this all by himself.
- Conspiracy Theorist: Simon thinks Bruce Lee faked his own death so he could go undercover and break up the Triads. Gareth believes him but Tim is skeptical:Tim: Yeah, because if you wanted to send someone undercover, you'd want the world's most famous Chinese film star!
- Cringe Comedy: David's "motivational" speech.
- Green-Eyed Monster: Gareth and Dawn are both clearly envious of Tim and Rachel's relationship.
- Hypocritical Humor: David, who used to call Malcolm "Kojak", takes exception when he discovers that he has been nicknamed "Mr. Toad" and "Bluto".
- Insistent Terminology: As Simon painstakingly points out, Bruce Lee only fought Chuck Norris in Way of the Dragon, and NOT Enter the Dragon.
- Instantly Proven Wrong: David claims that "names will never hurt me" and to prove it he invites Gareth to insult him. Gareth obliges and as David Can't Take Criticism, he immediately becomes defensive.
- Office Romance: Tim and Rachel.
- One-Shot Character: Simon the IT guy makes his only appearance in the series.
- Shout-Out:
- David is known as Bluto and Mr Toad among the office staff.
- During Gareth and Simon's conversation about kung-fu movies, Tim mutters "those cats were fast as lightning", a line from Carl Douglas' "Kung-fu fighting".
- Tall Tale: Simon's far-fetched stories about his go-karting and speedway experiences are almost certainly Blatant Lies.
