Recap / The Life And Times Of Juniper Lee S 1 E 2 Ive Got My Mind On My Mummy

Go To

June is initially underwhelmed by her class’s field trip to the Orchid Bay museum, but cheers up when she gets to spend some time with her crush Marcus. Later that night, a group of mysterious cultists raise Khommen-Ghetit, a redneck mummy who prefers to be known as Skeeter. When June and Marcus return to the museum the next day, the mummy they’re supposed to be doing a report on is missing. They head for the library, but June is called away by her mystical alarm bracelet.

After discovering many empty graves at the cemetery, June chases down a zombie on his way to work at Uncle Skeeter’s Waffle & Rib Emporium. Skeeter’s sinister plan? Open a family restaurant with dirt-cheap zombie labor! Dropped into a dungeon, June finds an imprisoned cultist who reveals that she must destroy the orb used to raise Skeeter before sunset, or else he’ll become immortal and his restaurants will take over the world.

Ray-Ray and Monroe infiltrate the restaurant. They’re soon caught, but Ray-Ray disrupts operations by encouraging the zombies to unionize. When Skeeter summons more, Monroe activates a guide beacon for June. She punches her way up through the floot (and two hundred feet of concrete), convincing Skeeter to flee. Before he can escape, Ray-Ray snatches his orb and throws it to June, who tosses it into a deep fryer. Skeeter is banished, but not before promising to return for a “grand re-opening”.

Tropes:

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: June complains about fighting an army of hillbilly demons, punching through two hundred feet of concrete, and losing her favorite earrings.
  • Got Me Doing It: Before the final showdown, June announces she’s “hankerin’ for some hurtin!”
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: When June’s mystical alarm bracelet goes off, she looks directly at the viewer.
June: I just knew that was gonna happen.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Ray-Ray and Monroe sneak into the restaurant in ridiculous cowboy costumes. The zombies aren’t the usual mindless shamblers, but they’re still pretty gullible.
  • Right Behind Me: A more positive version than usual, if still a little embarrassing.
June: I mean, there is no question that Marcus is a ninth-degree babe with the great hair and the cute smile, but that doesn't change the fact that he's standing right behind me, right?
  • Shout-Out: Skeeter announces a ‘’Dead Man’s Party’’.
  • Tempting Fate: After Monroe is less than helpful with some translation, June says they’ll have to go back to the museum the next day.
Marcus: No big deal. It’s not like the mummy’s going anywhere. *cut to sinister ritual*
