Recap / The Interns S 5 E 18

Go To

For some reason, Irina avoids inviting Semyon to her house (their... nights of love always occurs at Gleb's and Semyon's apartment). There must be something what she tries to hide. And that secret is some dude named "Kirill". Now Lobanov thinks that she's cheating on him with that "Kirill" (or cheats on Kirill with him, he doesn't care). What he's not aware of is that Kirill isn't her lover; he's her little son. However, after spending a whole day angry at Irina, in the end, he learns the truth.

Varya has a conflict with other interns about them acting like pigs near her, and insults them. They responds by offering her to move to a nurse room, so she wouldn't be forced to deal with them any longer, if she considers that everything must be as she want it to. She retaliates by starting irritating them as much as she can (like disrupting Gleb's work; re-dressing right here to embarrass Phil and force him to leave; or speaking with her friend, right in front of Semyon who tries to eat, about whatever disgusting topic she could think of). They retaliates by making a mess out of on-call room, and sitting here, in only their undies, drinking beer with dry fish as snacks... only to be busted by Bykov. Bykov sides with Varya and tells them that they are acting like stupid pigs. They realises this, too, and stops their conflict. In the end, when they starts acting normally, Varya apologises to them, too, restoring their friendship.

Bykov and Kupitman are playing cards on wishes (despite Kisegach forbidding them to do so), and Kupitman loses, which means that he must tell Kisegach that he secretly loves her. Kisegach quickly learns about this, and decides to punish them, by playing along with Kupitman's "story" just to mess with Bykov. Bykov, instead of accepting defeat, forces Kupitman to continue his play to make Anastasia question wether it was indeed fake, or he was sincere... which only results in him being busted during conversation with Kupitman.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Armor-Piercing Question: When Bykov busts Gleb, Semyon and Phil making a mess out of on-call room an sitting here in only undies, drinking beer, he asks them what the hell is that; when they tries to explain that it's their reaction to Varya calling them pigs, he asks wether she's wrong; this leads to them realising that they were at wrong here.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Episode starts with Kupitman making a declaration of love to Kisegach. Do you think it would be a story about Love Triangle? Wrong, Kupitman just played cards with Bykov on wishes, and lost.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: While male interns are right about Varya acting egoistical for trying to enforce her own standards on everyone, she's not exactly wrong either: the "rights" which Varya supposedly "violated" is just them acting like pigs; and their "plan" to force her to accept their terms is... acting like even bigger pigs. When Bykov busts them during them making a mess out of on-call room, he actually sides with Varya. They do realise that they came too far, and later they apologises — and Varya apologises in turn.
  • Glamorous Single Mother: Irina is perfectly able to sustain herself and her son Kirill, and even has time for relationship with Semyon.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Kisegach uses Kupitman's words about him "loving" her (in truth he said this because of a lost card bet) against Bykov, by pretending that those "feelings" are mutual, being perfectly aware that Bykov can hear them (as the best hiding spot he could think of is closet, which she busted instantly). Though Bykov instantly recognises that it was trolling attempt on Kisegach's part and starts planning his revenge.
  • Humiliating Wager: After winning a card game (with wishes on bet) against Kupitman, Bykov forces him to go to Kisegach and tell her that he's in love with her. She quickly realises that it was not real when she learns about their other antics (it was not the fist their bet this day), and plays along to mess with Bykov.
  • Impossibly Cool Clothes: Varya's new blouse looks like it's made of thousands pieces of glass. Everyone starts mocking her for it.
  • It's All About Me: Other interns accuses Varya of being an egoist when she starts demanding them to change their behaviour to accommodate for her wishes, ignoring that on-call room does not belong to her, and offers her to move to a nurse room, where nobody would bother her. Instead of accepting that yes, not all people would play under her rules, she starts acting like she's the only one to be here, by doing exactly what they don't like.
  • Mistaken for Cheating: While Semyon is uncertain wether Irina cheats on him with "Kirill", or with "Kirill" on him, he is certain that something is not right. Fortunately, "Kirill" in question is Irina's son.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Had Kisegach just told Lobanov that Kirill is Irina's son (or Semyon asked her who he is), the whole Semyon's plot could've been averted.
