Go To

Original air date: 6/18/2022

Production code: 117a

To give Libby much-needed good luck on Friday the 13th, Molly has Scratch transfer her own good luck into a penny for her, which comes at Molly's expense. Worse, the crew lose the coin, which lands in the already-lucky Andrea's purse...

Tropes:

  • Animals Hate Him: This trait of Scratch's prevents him attempting to use his ghostly powers to steal the penny from Andrea, as her parents unexpectedly gift her a pony from one of her father's business meetings, causing it to interfere when Scratch approaches and kick him into the bushes.
  • Ash Face: The first part of the final gag of the episode has Scratch eat one of the super spicy chips he's been eating throughout the episode, causing a massive explosion that leaves him, Molly, and Libby covered in soot.
  • Bee Afraid: Molly gets attacked out of nowhere by a swarm of aggressive bees.
  • Butt-Monkey: While Molly often suffers these kinds of misfortunes, this episode takes it to a whole new level after she transfers her luck into a magic penny. She just can't catch a break.
  • Fire-Breathing Diner: Eating spicy tortilla chips gives Scratch fire burps.
  • Food as Bribe: Scratch refuses to transfer Molly's good luck to Libby, stating that altering the balance of fortune would be catastrophic. He gives in instantly, however, when Molly offers him two bags of spicy tortilla chips.
  • Good Luck Charm: Scratch transfers Molly's good luck into a penny that will give good luck to whoever holds it.
  • The Jinx: Andrea becomes one when the lucky penny ends up in her bag. While she has nothing but good luck, everybody near her suffers from chaos and disaster. She remains oblivious, though.
  • Large Ham: Scratch always goes full-tilt whenever he's casting a curse. It's even lampshaded by Libby and Molly.
Libby: (giggles) He really leans into his performance.
    Molly: And no formal training!
  • Running Gag: Libby keeps getting attacked by plastic bags at every chance. When Molly loses her good luck, the bags go after her in droves.
  • Shout-Out: The plastic bags perch on the power lines to stalk Libby like in The Birds.
  • 13 Is Unlucky: The episode takes place on Friday the 13th. Scratch explains that the balance of good and bad luck gets altered on that day. However, instead of causing bad luck, everyone's natural luck is amplified, causing those with naturally bad luck - like Libby - to become extra unlucky, and those with naturally good luck - like Molly - to become extra lucky.
  • Tongue Twister: Scratch does this as a vocal warm-up when preparing to curse the lucky penny.
Scratch: (Clears Throat) A Ghostly Ghoul Gifted Great Guavas to a Gander of Ghastly Geese.
  • Urine Trouble: A dog just relieved itself on the ground. One moment later Molly falls down at that very spot.
  • Vengeful Vending Machine: As proof of Libby's bad luck, when she tries to get a snack from the vending machine, it gets stuck halfway. When she tries to shake it loose, the machine lands on her foot.
  • Walking Disaster Area: When the already-lucky Andrea accidentally gets the lucky penny, it causes her luck to reach critical mass and enact a 'luck suck' that drains the luck out of everybody around her without her knowledge, causing disasters to start manifesting to those around her as she walks down the street, eventually threatening to drain the luck out of everybody in Brighton.
