  • And You Thought It Would Fail: In-universe, everyone expresses apprehension that the Golden Jubilee celebrations will be a flop. In the event, though, large crowds turn out to cheer the Queen.
  • Artistic License – Law Enforcement: Done in-universe by Mohamed Fayed, who claims that MI5, MI6 and MI7 were all involved in the deaths of Diana and Dodi. This is probably done to emphasise the ridiculousness of his claims, as in actual fact, MI5 deals with internal British security, while MI7 has not existed since World War II.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Mohamed Fayed pushes for a police enquiry into the deaths of Diana and Dodi which he hopes will back his conspiracy theories. After an extensive investigation (which includes visiting some distress on William, who has to relive the loss of his mother again, in addition to which he inadvertently ends up eavesdropping on the police interviewing his father about the accident) Commissioner Stevens concludes that it was an accident, and in doing so points out several failings on the part of the Fayeds (last-minutes changes to plans, letting a man who was drunk drive the car, etc) which led to it.
  • Call-Back: Implied; during her conversation with William, Elizabeth states that she knows what a stalker is. She may well have Michael Fagan in mind at this point.
  • Conspiracy Theorist: Mohamed Fayed is convinced that the Royal Family was somehow behind the deaths of Diana and Dodi.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After the police enquiry into the deaths of Diana and Dodi concludes that it was an accident, an angry Mohamed Fayed declares his intention to leave Britain.
  • Stalker with a Crush: William worries that he might come across as one of these towards Kate.
