Recap / Tales Of The Unexpected S 1 E 7 Edward The Conqueror

Go To

When classical music enthusiast Louisa rescues a stray cat, she becomes convinced that it is the reincarnation of Franz Liszt. Her husband Edward disagrees.

Examples:

  • Adaptational Alternate Ending: In the original story, Edward kills the cat, leaving the reader to wonder whether Louisa can forgive him. In this adaptation, Louisa kills Edward when she thinks he has killed the cat, only for the cat to return when it's too late...
  • Contrived Coincidence: If the cat is not really a reincarnation, it takes several coincidences to convince Louisa. The cat reacts favourably to Liszt's music and unfavorably to classical music from other composers and knocks over statuettes of several composers, leaving only the Liszt one undamaged.
  • Rage Breaking Point: When Louisa kills Edward. Subverted with Edward, as Louisa is fatally wrong about what he has done.
  • Reincarnated as a Non-Humanoid: Or at least Louisa thinks so. She believes Franz Liszt has become a cat.
  • Wrong Assumption: Louisa deduces Edward has killed the cat when he comes inside dirty. He's just been working in the garden, and the cat is unharmed.
