Recap / Sonic Boom S 1 E 9 Guilt Tripping

Go To

Sonic and Tails save a village from the Weasel Bandits. End of story, right? NOPE. The pair are guilt-tripped by the villagers into staying as a reward for their heroism.

Tropes featured in this episode include:

  • Batman Gambit: After beating Eggman's robots, Sonic and Tails use the Gogoba's guilt tripping technique to get them to go with Eggman, knowing they will become his problem while also convincing Eggman that he is stealing their allies.
  • Guilt-Tripping: The episode is named for this trope. Sonic and Tails save Gogoba Village from the Weasel Bandits, but the Gogobas guilt trip them into staying as a reward for their heroism. Sonic eventually decides that in order to escape from the Gogobas, they have to use their own tactics against them, leading to a scene where he and the Gogoba Chief attempt to out-guilt each other. At the end of the episode, after beating Dr. Eggman's robots, Sonic and Tails use the Gogobas' guilt-tripping technique to get them to go with Eggman, knowing they will become his problem while also convincing Eggman that he is stealing their allies.
  • Hypocritical Humor: When Sonic finally gets back to his house, he checks the messages on his answering machine, which are from Dr. Eggman, which reveal that his plan to blow up the dam was a ruse so he could destroy him, and is upset because Sonic didn't bother to show up. The Gogoba Chief then says "Wow, that guy can't take a hint!"
  • Japanese Politeness: After they are given a bed for the night by some of the Gogobas, Sonic and Tails do this very slightly to thank them, though they're still overcome by the fact they've been guilt-tripped into staying.
