Tropes that Appear in This Episode

  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: The Rose family gets a lot of moments where they show how close they've become.
    • Alexis shares a moment with Moira, sad that they won't be spending all their time together anymore, no longer able to just walk into the next room and talk to each other.
    • She also has a moment with David at the wedding, sorry that she accidentally wore a wedding dress to his wedding. He reassures her in return that "For what it's worth, I am continually impressed by you.".
    • Johnny steps up and does everything he can to save David's wedding day.
    • Moira breaks down on seeing David walking down the aisle and can barely speak while acting as officiant.
    • Johnny congratulates Moira on yet another Emmy-worthy performance, and doesn't bat an eye as she claims "Someone had to keep it together".
    • The family all cry as Johnny and Moira get in their car to begin their trip to LA.
    • Stevie, of course, is present for every moment, helping Patrick keep David calm, joining in with Johnny as he puts the wedding back together, helping keep David calm when he realizes Alexis is in a wedding dress, and, of course, participating in the wedding as Best Woman.
    • Roland even gets in on the action in his usual Crass Canuck fashion. He delivers a weird, insensitive statement, but also added the Rose family to the town sign as a beautiful send-off.
  • Best Woman: Stevie serves as this for David, wearing a suit to the wedding, even as she had previously referred to herself as his maid of honor.
  • Bifauxnen: Stevie wears a suit as David's maid of honor.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Everyone gets a happy ending, but this necessitates the Roses going their separate ways and moving out of the motel. They will keep in regular contact, but it won't be the same.
  • Call-Back: There's a number of call-backs to the series, including reference to the town's iconic sign. The Jazzagals sing both "Precious Love" and "Simply the Best" at David and Patrick's wedding. Patrick sings part of his vows.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Roland jokes that Johnny could die at any moment, crushed by something falling from the ceiling. Then he dons a hard-hat, saying that it won't happen to him.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Downplayed, but Patrick correctly anticipated that David would freak out on the day of the wedding and booked him a massage weeks in advance.
  • The Fashionista: Moira goes beyond the impossible in this episode, showing she owns a fake Pope outfit, wig included.
  • The Gadfly: Stevie is delighted to learn Patrick accidentally gifted David a Happy-Ending Massage and eggs the moment on.
Stevie: OH MY GOD, this is the moment Ray should be filming!
  • Give Away the Bride: Alexis walks David down the aisle, in a wedding dress.
  • Happy-Ending Massage: A subplot puns on the idea of happy endings with Patrick accidentally gifting David with that kind of massage.
  • Incest Subtext: Parodied and in a Played for Laughs scenario that recalls the town sign, Alexis chooses to wear a wedding dress to walk her brother down the aisle, which she at first insists is merely a full-length white gown that came not with a veil but a tulle (a gauzy fabric) headdress that she chose not to wear. During the wedding, Roland points out that David looks like he's marrying his sister, and Johnny agrees but is too happy to care.
  • Innocent Innuendo: Patrick indignantly claims that he didn't say anything about a "happy ending", he just left a big tip for the masseur and a note to "take good care of [David]"... and then realizes that it could absolutely read that way.
  • Insistent Terminology: Alexis is not wearing a wedding gown, it's a white, floor length gown that came not with a veil, but a headdress that she chose not to wear.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Alexis points out to Moira that having lost their money allowed the Roses to come together and become closer as a family.
  • Pass the Popcorn: Stevie is delighted to learn that David got a happy ending at his massage and that there's drama because of it.
Stevie: See, this is what Ray should be filming!
  • Poor Communication Kills: Once again played up and then down with Patrick and David, as the former accidentally booked the latter a Happy-Ending Massage. Patrick starts out upset, then realizes it was a misunderstanding that was partly his fault, and they're absolutely fine.
Patrick: One day, this will be a really weird story.
  • Series Finale: The series finale wraps up the story of the Rose family with a wedding and the four Roses, plus Patrick and Stevie, embarking on new lives.
  • Sitcom Archnemesis: Ronnie still hasn't forgiven Patrick.
    Patrick: Thank you, Ronnie.
Ronnie: I'm doing this for David.
    Patrick: Of course.
  • Tears of Joy: Nearly everyone at the wedding cries at some point or another, and the cast says that many of the actors were legitimately weeping on set.
  • Wedding Finale: The series wraps up with David and Patrick's wedding. As rain threatens David and Patrick's meticulously planned nuptials, the denizens of the town rally to decorate the Town Hall and make it beautiful for the grooms.
