Fraidy Cat

  • An Aesop: There's nothing in the dark to be afraid of. Sometimes something scary can be the simplest thing.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After spending the segment taunting Sheegwa for being scared of the Gui Miao, he becomes frightened when she starts telling Fu-Fu the story and hurries to fall asleep.
  • Not So Above It All: Dongwa keeps insisting that the Gui Miao isn't real, and that his sisters are "fraidy cats" to believe in such a thing. But later, when the lantern goes out and falls on Dongwa, he starts panicking about the Gui Miao.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Discussed. After overhearing her grandfather's ghost story, Sheegwa wonders to him what would happen if the lanterns ever went out (since that's one of the final signs of the Gui Miao). Her grandfather casually points out that nothing scary would actually happen. Unlike human beings, cats have good night vision.

The Tortoise and the Cat

  • An Aesop: It's always good to slow down and appreciate what's around you.
  • Foil: Between Oogway and Sagwa. Oogway is a slow, old tortoise who likes to appreciate his surroundings. Sagwa is a young cat who would rather rush around to play.
  • Irony: When Oogway greets a little snail, it slithers off rather quickly while "rushing" to get some lettuce. Oowgway, being a slower tortoise, remarks "Young ones always in a hurry".
