Recap / Road To Berlin Ep 3 What The Two Of Us Can Do

Go To

Due to the damage done to the Port of Antwerpen and the resulting supply issues, the offensive into Karlsland is delayed. A furious General Patton has to be calmed down by General Bradley. Meanwhile, the Strike Witches move into their new base at Den Helder. Barkhorn is promoted as the new executive officer, and Hattori makes an embarrassing introduction to the squadron. After a training exercise, Miyafuji's Striker Unit shorts out again and she's taken to medical where it is determined that she has trouble controlling the flow of her magic power as a result of her gaining them back. Due to her unreliability, Miyafuji gets removed from active combat duties. A Neuroi appears and splits in two dividing the squadron. This proves to be a feint, with the true Neuroi secretly attacking the base after the Witches have been lured out. Only Wilcke and the grounded Hattori and Miyafuji are available to fight this threat. Wilcke heads out to fight it alone, but Hattori and Miyafuji convince her they can fly in tandem to conserve their magical power enough to defeat the Neuroi and the trio destroys it seconds later.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Artistic License – Gun Safety: Patton fires his gun repeatedly at a table map to take out his anger on the offensive being delayed.
  • Call-Back: Like Yoshika in the first season, Shizuka is initially unfamiliar with how the 501st works.
  • Continuity Nod: Like in Strike Witches, Lynne and Yoshika show Shizuka, the new recruit, around the Witches' Den Helder base.
  • Covert Pervert: Once again, Yoshika is this when she feels ecstastic from Shizuka's breasts pressing her back. Shizuka is not amused.
  • Not So Above It All: When Hattori trips and falls during her entrance, the normally composed Barkhorn can be seen desperately trying to hold in her laughter.
  • Oh, Crap!: Shizuka is left mouth agape after she falls upside down while introducing herself to the 501st JFW.
  • Power Incontinence: Minna told the other 501st Witches that Yoshika's magic becomes unstable because her magic pressure took a nosedive. Considering the fact that Yoshika used up all of her magic to wield Reppumaru at the end of the previous season, this is partly understandable.
  • Rank Up: Throughout Strike Witches and Strike Witches 2, Barkhorn holds the rank of captain. In this episode, she's promoted to Major due to Mio's retirement from the unit.
  • You Are in Command Now: With Mio's retirement, Barkhorn becomes the 501st JFW's next-in-command.
