"Do you want to answer that question, Jimmy, or should I?"
"Actually, Meowth, some things are just better left unsaid."
—Meowth and James after Jessie asks why no one told her she was going to have a Dustox instead of a Beautifly
Japanese Title: Agehunt & Dokucale! The Final Evolution!
Original Airdate: June 5, 2003
US Airdate: April 24, 2004
The moment of truth comes as May's Silcoon and Jessie's Cascoon clash once more, and May's evolves into a Beautifly. Still mistaken that she has a Silcoon, Jessie desperately grinds her Cascoon to get her to evolve as well. She's certainly in for a shock when the time comes.
This episode features examples of the following tropes:
- Bait-and-Switch: Throughout the episode, James and Meowth were worried that Jessie would be ticked off to find out that she'd be getting a Dustox instead of a Beautifly. When the moment finally comes, Jessie shows she finds Dustox just as lovely.
- Burning with Anger: Fortunately for James and Meowth, this is averted. Jessie loves her Dustox, just like the Wurmple she originally had, and the Cascoon she thought was a Silcoon.
- Didn't See That Coming: Jessie never realized Silcoon and Cascoon were different. But when she gets her Dustox, she likes her so much she asks why no one ever told her before. This gets Stunned Silence from the twerps and Professor Birch.note Meowth wonders if he and James should tell her why, but James says not to.
- Failed a Spot Check: Professor Birch tries to prove the difference between Silcoon and Cascoon by comparing their eyes, apparently not noticing the obvious different colors of their cocoons.
- Forced Level-Grinding: Jessie grinds her Cascoon when May's Silcoon evolves to Beautifly.
- Mistaken Identity: Professor Birch is the first to call out Jessie on her belief that she has a Silcoon, identifying it as a Cascoon.
- This Cannot Be!: Jessie keeps up her delusion until Cascoon evolves.Jessie: This is...my cute Beautifly? But it looks almost like...
Max: Almost like a Dustox?
