Recap / Nexo Knights S 2 E 4 The Kings Tournament

Go To

On King Halbert's birthday, Jorah Tightwad decides to prove that his team of knights, the Tighty Knighties, are better than the Nexo Knights at King Halbert's birthday tournament, using the Book of Envy as proof that they encountered Jestro. If the Tighty Knighties win, Macy has to kiss Tightwad. If they lose, Jorah has to kiss Lance's "sweetheart."

The next day, the tournament is held to see who are the best group of knights in Knightonia. All four Tighty Knighties best the Nexo Knights in the tournament except Macy who is forced to be her father's princess for the day and thus is forbidden to compete. Suddenly, Jestro and the Book of Monsters lead the Lava Monster Army into attacking the birthday tournament. The Tighty Knighties are then shown being completely useless at fighting them and cowering in fear. At that moment, Tightwad reveals the truth of how he obtained the Book of Envy. This distracts him long enough for Jestro to take the book from him.

After defeating the Lava Monster Army, the Nexo Knights are declared the true winners of the tournament, and Jorah tried to argue that it was no fair, since everyone saw that his knights were superior, but the Tighty Knighties explain that they're good in shows, but when it comes to fighting monsters, they can't compete. So Tightwad is forced to kiss Lance's "sweetheart" on the lips. This turns out to be Hamletta much to Tightwad's horror. King Halbert is proud of what Macy did today, saying there's a time for her to be a princess and a time for when she needs to be a knight. Meanwhile, Jestro and the Book of Monsters have succeeded in stealing the Book of Envy.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Jorah acts like one towards Macy throughout the episode, being way too eager to get a kiss from her. He may not be particularly ugly, but when you consider the age gap...
  • An Aesop: Just because you are bad at entertaining people doesn't mean you are bad at defending them. On the inverse, being a great performer doesn't make you a great fighter.
  • Birthday Episode: It's King Halbert's birthday.
  • Exact Words: Macy tells Tightwad that if the Tighty Knighties fail the competition, he will have to kiss Lance's sweetheart. Turns out Lance calls Hamletta his sweetheart so Tightwad is made to kiss the pig.
  • The Guards Must Be Crazy: One of the reasons Jestro managed to infiltrate the Joustdome in the first place - the guards were watching the competition instead of the city entrance.
  • Loophole Abuse: Even after Tighty Knighties crush the Nexo Knights with a 4-0 score, the tournament isn't over until the king says it's over...and the king only says it after the monster attack, which helps our heroes win back the crowd.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Jorah Tightwad's "Tighty Knighties" all have names resembling celebrities:
  • Offscreen Teleportation: Implied, as it's one of the few plausible explanations as to how Jestro managed to steal the Book of Envy without either Tightwad or Macy noticing.
  • Technician vs. Performer: During the Tournament the Tighty Knighties effortlessly school the Nexo Knights. However when Jestro's monster forces show up they are all either terrified or easily dispatched while the Nexo Knights drive off the evil forces. The Tighty Knighties even admit that while they are the superior athletes their opponents were the better warriors.
  • Wins by Doing Absolutely Nothing: Jousting didn't even have to joust Lance - he forgot to watch where his horse was going while complaining about Bieber being more popular than him and got ejected from the arena.
  • Worthy Opponent:
    • Although Ava doesn't compete in the tournament, Tighty Knighties are still fighting her friends, yet she can't help but compliment Shia LaBlade's performance.
    • Tighty Knighies also accept the Nexo Knights as these, admitting that they are better at fighting monsters than they could ever be.
