"A Fireweed Feast": Molly and Trini are on a quest for fireweed, but a storm interrupts their hike and forces them to find food and shelter.
"A Fireweed Feast" contains the following tropes:
- Know Your Vines: Walter and Daniel warn Molly and Trini to verify whether the first flower they find is fireweed. It's not; it's poisonous lupine.
- Most Common Card Game: The episode opens with Molly and Trini playing Go Fish against Molly's parents.
- Ominous Clouds: Walter alerts the group to a storm to the east, but when he sees dark clouds on the horizon, he realizes that the storm has turned in their direction.
- Shown Their Work: Walter notices a storm to the east and worries that it's headed in their direction. While most of the US is used to weather coming in from the west, north of 60° the winds come out of the northeast and blow southwest. Weather does tend to sharply curve to the east once it hits the jet stream between the Hadley and polar cells, but in general, storms in northern Alaska can be expected to come out of the north and the east.
- Talking to Plants: Auntie Midge reminds the girls to thank the plants when they go out picking, an Alaska Native tradition that promotes respecting the plants and not over-harvesting them.
"River Skate": It's Trini's first river skate, but she's never skated before, so Molly and Tooey are determined to teach her.
"River Skate" contains the following tropes:
- Failures on Ice: Trini's first attempt at skating goes about as well as expected.
- Fantasy Helmet Enforcement: Molly, Trini, and Tooey wear helmets while skating.
- Hidden Depths: Among Auntie Midge's many athletic talents is figure skating, as she demonstrates a salchow for Trini.
- I Will Only Slow You Down: Trini tries to tell Molly and Tooey to go on to the bonfire without her, but they naturally refuse.
- Record Needle Scratch: A record needle scratch is heard when Trini almost crashes into Mr. Patak.
- Shout-Out: "La donna è mobile" from Rigoletto plays when Mr. Patak is skating.
