Recap / Knuckles Episode 1: "The Warrior"

Go To

Written by: John Whittington

Directed by: Jeff Fowler

While struggling to adjust to life on Earth, Knuckles receives a vision from the great echidna chief Pachacamac to help Wade, fresh from being kicked off his bowling team, learn the ways of the echidna warrior and win the championship in Reno.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: As Sonic tells Knuckles, Maddie is not a person to mess with when she's angry.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: After Agent Willoughby assures Agent Fairley that she has everything under control and then immediately causes G.U.N.'s tracking satellites to go offline, Fairley points out what she did and then trails off after it dawns on him that this means Willoughby's now the only one who can track Knuckles. This is enough to tip him off that Willoughby is up to something underhanded, unfortunately not quick enough to save him from Agent Mason kicking him through a Warp Ring to the Mushroom Planet.
  • Fish out of Water: A major conflict in this episode is Knuckles struggling to adapt in the modern world due to remaining his warrior lifestyle.
  • Mailman vs. Dog: Knuckles turns the living room of the Wachowski household into an arena and gets family dog Ozzy to face the mailman in combat.
  • Never My Fault: Knuckles misunderstands Sonic’s advice to “make himself at home” by turning the living room into a gladiator arena and kidnapping the mailman. When Maddie grounds him for this, Knuckles blames Sonic and tells him he is planning revenge on him for this.
  • Noodle Incident: After the repair crew leaves, Sonic notes that they are the fourth to be attacked by Knuckles that month.
  • Previously on…: Sonic narrates a quick recap of the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, detailing how Knuckles came to be in Green Hills.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Maddie tries to be patient with Knuckles's antics. But when she learns he captured the mailman to pit against Ozzy, she puts her foot down and grounds him.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After being hunted by Knuckles, the repairmen pack up their tools and drive off on their truck, abandoning their work on the house.
  • Tempting Fate: During his talk with Knuckles on the roof, Sonic says that Robotnik is gone and there is battle to fight or no quest to embark on. Even considering Knuckles's own quest in this series, there's also what we were shown in The Stinger of the previous film.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Nobody in the road stop bowling alley seems to question that there's a humanoid red echidna who can smash every bowling pin by throwing a bowling ball at them.
  • Victory Is Boring: Knuckles swore that he would find the Master Emerald. Now that that oath has been fullfilled, Knuckles' sudden lack of purpose combined with a life on a peaceful place begins to take a toll on him.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Maddie calls out Knuckles for turning the living room into a gladiator arena (and one that’s very hazardous at that) and getting Ozzy to fight their mailman in it. Perfectly understandable, as this would be illegal in modern Earth society (one of the repairmen that Knuckles attacked even threatened to sue).
  • Written-In Absence: Due to James Marsden not being a part of the cast, Tom is mentioned as being out of town.
  • You Are Grounded!: Maddie gives this to Knuckles for turning the living room into a gladiator arena and forcing Ozzy to fight the mailman in it.
Knuckles: I have no idea what that means.
Sonic: Well, I definitely do. It means no battling enemies.
Tails: No leaving your room on quests.
Maddie: And most of all, no warrior-ing.
