Sento: In order to take over the nation, the extraterrestrial entity Evolt has begun gathering 10 Lost Bottles, extracted from ten powerful monsters, the Lost Smashes. Meanwhile, Kamen Rider Build AKA Kiryuu Sento is faced with his father, Katsuragi Shinobu, who had faked his own death.
Ryuga: So you’re finally meeting your dad… I wonder what he’s gonna say?
Sento: Probably “It’s been a while,” or “How have you been?”
Ryuga: Aw, come on man! Remember, you’ve got Satou Tarou’s face now. He doesn’t even know about Lynks! It’s been more than just “a long time!”
Sento: Oh, pipe down! I’m sure he’ll be able to act like it’s not a big deal. But I’m curious, too. Let’s hurry and start Episode 43.
Shinobu Katsuragi is indeed the second Build and has allied himself with Evolt. What could this mean for our protagonists?
Episode Tropes:
- Apology Gift: Sawa plots to bribe Kazumi back to the nascita gang by giving him a life-sized Miitan body pillow after he splits off from the group. Misora questions how Sawa was able to make it after being shown the body pillow in question.
- Breaking the Fellowship: The nascita gang is split over Shinobu’s reveal as the second Build and whether or not he is truly on Evolt’s side, causing Kazumi and Gentoku to leave the party since they do not trust Sento as he is currently to help them.
- Continuity Nod: Shinobu's Build Driver doesn't make the "Best Match!" declaration despite every form he uses except PhoenixTank being a Best Match, because that particular feature of the Driver was a modification Katsuragi/Sento made after losing his memories.
- Deadly Upgrade: Shinobu infuses Misora with an insane dosage of Nebula Gas on Evolt’s orders to try and strengthen Vernage’s power, and the result is a Lost Smash that is life-threatening to Misora, even if Sento tries to use a Genius Finish to sever the bond.
- Foreshadowing: After Sento sends Shinobu flying into a wall, Sento catches the Rabbit FullBottle and it turns gold.
- Heroic BSoD: Sento spends most of his episode debating his father’s true alliance, and his conviction to fight Shinobu visibly hampers his combat effectiveness.
- Lampshade Hanging: When Kazumi and Gentoku leave the nascita gang and then later discuss their plans after splitting off from Sento, Gentoku unzips his jacket to reveal that his shirt has a response for that situation (“Farewell” and “Agreed” respectively). Sawa and Kazumi both question why he uses a shirt in each situation, with Sawa questioning why Gentoku won’t just use his words and Kazumi asking how long he has been wearing the “Agreed” shirt.
- Meaningful Echo: When Sento was at his lowest point in the episode, Ryuga appears and repeats to Sento the words that Sento himself said to Evolt back in #14 on how it doesn’t matter if they were tricked into being heroes since the things they believe in aren’t an illusion and that they fight because it’s the right thing to do.
- Mundane Solution: If Vernage’s possession of Misora is what makes the CD Lost Smash’s defeat dangerous and Ryuga is steadily losing control while developing more of Evolt’s power, there was only one solution that Sento thought would work: use Ryuga as a new host for Vernage to allow the Genius Finish to save Misora as intended and use Vernage as a Restraining Bolt on Evolt’s influence for Ryuga.
- No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Shinobu is more than capable of doing this as Build by using the maximum potential of each form to overwhelm his enemies. His affinity with the Build system is such that he can easily fight off two Hazard Level 4+ Riders and one Hazard Level 7 Rider with just NinninComic, and even take on TankTank with RabbitTank.
- Parents Know Their Children: Shinobu recognizes Sento as his son Takumi because of the way Sento messes with his hair, stating that Takumi always played with his hair whenever he was anxious or upset.
- Power of the Void: Ryuga awakens this power in response to his desire to stop Evolt from wiping out Earth with a black hole.
- Wham Shot: Ryuga isn't the only Hazard Level 7 Kamen Rider anymore, because Sento managed to turn his newly recovered Rabbit Fullbottle into the Gold Rabbit Fullbottle.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Kazumi demands an answer out of Sento after using Genius form to KO Ryuga and stop him from potentially killing Shinobu. Though once he hears Sento’s answer, Kazumi leaves nascita, dissatisfied with Sento shaken conviction.
