Tropes

  • Adaptational Wimp: In this version of Magneto can only control a positive field or a negative field, not both at once.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Due Magneto's power over metal, whenever, Iron Man against Magneto it is mostly one sided. The final battle against Magneto, while Iron Man does create a defensive to protect himself from Magneto, the latter is only defeated when he gets distracted long enough for War Machine to remove his helmet to allow Jean to use her powers to knock him out.
  • Hero of Another Story: At the end of the episode, Professor X visits the Tomorrow Academy and recruits Jean join to his school.
  • Hidden Depths: Rhodey believes that mutants shouldn’t be treated like outcast just because they’re different.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • In the episode Jean Grey uses the alias of "Annie Claremont." In the comics, Annie was her childhood friend whose death awakened Jean's psychic abilities, while Chris Claremont is a prolific writer known for his work on X-Men.
    • Tony mentions that he sold multiple new inventions to Pym Industries and the Baxter Think Tank.
    • At the end of the episode, Tony says that he hopes Magneto wakes up in a plastic prison cell.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Magneto's attempts standing up for mutants only make them look worse, when he attacks two anti-mutant activists, one of them is a senator, making them look like victims. Downplayed, as he realizes that trying to kill Senator Robert Kelly will make look martyr, so he tries have Jean kill Kelly by using he telekinetic abilities to attack his heart and make look like Kelly had a heart attack.
  • Truer to the Text: Name wise at least. This one of the few adaptations to use Magneto’s original name from the comics, Max Eisenhardt, while Erik Lehnsherr, the name he usually goes by is more of an alias.
  • Ungrateful Bastard Annie/Jean actually saves Senator Kelly's life, and he still blames her for what happened. Fortunately it causes his supporters to turn on him.
