Frank’s Barber Shop
New barber in town Frank discovers that his barber pole is broken and calls Manny to fix it; meanwhile, Elliot is starting another new job and realizes that, in order to look his best on his first day, he needs a haircut.
”Frank’s Barber Shop” includes instances of:
- Barbershop Episode: Of course. The plot involves Manny and the tools fixing a barber pole, while barber Frank gives Elliot a sorely-needed haircut.
- Call-Back: Elliot is once again seen helping out at Kelly’s store.
- Compressed Hair: Somehow, Elliot is able to fit a veritable lion’s mane of Messy Hair underneath his backwards baseball cap.
- Continuity Nod: Elliot at one point mentions being a skateboarder.
- Location Title: The episode is named after the barber shop Frank owns.
- Messy Hair: Elliot has a severe case of this hidden under his hat. Fortunately for him, Frank is able to fix it fairly easily.
- New Job as the Plot Demands: Elliot’s gotten himself another one- he’s going to be Mayor Rosa’s assistant, and wants to get a haircut so he can look his best when he starts the job.
- Parallel Parking: At one point, Mr. Lopart tries to parallel park in a spot that’s explicitly (Stretch checked!) too small for his car. After much banging around, he ends up blowing a tire on his car and setting off the alarms of the cars on either side of where he was trying to park.
- The Un-Smile: Elliot produces one when Frank tells him to smile.
Rusty’s Second Wind
A radio announcement forecasts that Sheet Rock Hills is in for a severe thunderstorm, which causes Rusty much anxiety. His nerves aren’t helped when Manny’s next job takes the tools to the weather station, to fix a broken wind vane.
“Rusty’s Second Wind” contains examples of:
- Big Storm Episode: The plot revolves around Rusty trying to overcome his Fear of Thunder when a radio bulletin forecasts that Sheet Rock Hills will be hit by a severe thunderstorm.
- Call-Back: Rusty's Fear of Thunder, which he was established as having in “Sizing Things Up”, is a major plot point.
- Continuity Nod: When Señor Lopez calls the repair shop, Manny asks him if the school is having another science fair.
- Fear of Thunder: Rusty is revealed to have this.
- Instantly Proven Wrong: This happens to Mr. Lopart when he demonstrates his “ability” to predict the weather.Mr. Lopart: Fluffy, I say it’s going to be an absolutely beautiful day.
//Loud thunderclap// - New Job as the Plot Demands: Señor Lopez, who was the science teacher at Sheet Rock Hills Elementary in “Science Fair”, is now suddenly also the radio station’s meteorologist.
- Pun-Based Title: The title refers to both a metaphorical “second wind” and literal, meteorological wind.
- When It Rains, It Pours: When the big storm that Señor Lopez predicted finally hits Sheet Rock Hills, the weather switches from “dry” to “torrential downpour” near-instantly, without the transitional state of “light rain that gradually becomes heavier” that generally happens with real thunderstorms.
