Bingo Night
It’s bingo night at the community center, and Turner is… less-than-thrilled about being forced to participate- until he starts winning. But then, just when Turner only needs one more letter to win, the bingo crank goes and breaks.
”Bingo Night” includes examples of the following tropes:
- Continuity Nod: The community center still has some Aztec art hung on its walls.
- Exact Words: Fate likes to play with Mr. Lopart this way.Mr. Lopart: Soon our card will be covered with markers. Just you wait…
//Fluffy knocks her toy mouse onto the stack of markers, causing it to spill all over Mr. Lopart’s board//
Pat: Hey, you were right! - Literal-Minded:Mr. Lopart: I have another trick up my sleeve that I know Fluffy can’t resist. (Produces a toy mouse from his pocket) Voila!
Pat: That wasn’t up his sleeve, it was in his pocket.
Scribble Trouble
Manny’s sister Lola needs his help repainting some walls that her son Chico drew all over; the painting job is completed quickly enough, but then Chico goes and draws on the freshly-painted walls…
”Scribble Trouble” provides instances of the following:
- Bomb Whistle: The sound effect can be faintly heard when Pat (and two cans of paint) fall off Kelly’s shelves.
- Call-Back: Chico still really, really wants to be with his uncle Manny.
- Continuity Nod:
- Lola has a picture of Manny and Abuelito by Lake Nochanailin hanging on her wall.
- Once again, a young child decides to play with Turner like a toy.
- Covered in Gunge: Pat ends up splattered with paint after he accidentally knocks two cans off Kelly’s shelves.
- "Everybody Laughs" Ending: The episode ends with everyone laughing at Chico’s adorable (and atrocious) drawing of Manny and the tools.
- Famous Ancestor: Mr. Lopart subverts this.Mr. Lopart: You know, my grandpa Aloysious Lopart was a very famous painter.
Manny: That’s muy interesante, Mr. Lopart. Very interesting. Did he paint anything we’ve ever seen?
Mr. Lopart: Have you ever been to the Sheet Rock Hills Art Museum?
Dusty: Wow! His paintings are in the museum?
Mr. Lopart: No, not exactly. But he did paint the walls of the gift shop. - Fictional Painting: Mr. Lopart is seen trying to paint a portrait of a Tutti-Frutti Lollipop; some Fluffy antics cause him to fall on the canvas in such a way that the painting ends up transferring to the back of his clothes.
- Hammerspace: This is where the markers Chico uses to draw on Lola’s walls seem to come from. Seriously, where does he get them?!
- Luck-Based Search Technique: Pat, by knocking a can of brown paint and a can of orange paint off of Kelly’s shelves, manages to mix them to create the exact color of “terracotta rust” she was looking for.
- Mustache Vandalism: Chico performs a variant; when Dusty moves to block him from drawing on the wall, he draws a mustache on her, much to her annoyance. (The mustache inexplicably vanishes during a camera transition, in a phenomenon similar to yet distinct from a Hair Reboot.)
- Offscreen Crash:
- One happens when Felipe accidentally sends a roll of paper towels rolling at Turner; after the crash, we see that Turner has somehow become stuck inside the roll.
- Pat falling off Kelly’s shelves, and pulling two paint cans down with him, is presented this way.
- Rhyming Title: Well, it sort-of rhymes.
- Stylistic Suck: The drawing of Manny and the tools Chico produces at the end is… not exactly the best, although it’s actually surprisingly good considering that it was made by a two-year-old.
